Default Does this sound odd?

Ok, Ryan had an overnight field trip on Wed. DH went so we could be sure he was well taken care of. DH was talking with one of the teachers, turns out she is Type 1. She says she at one time was part of trials for inhaled insulin but the FDA took it off the market. So, she is getting it from Canada. Here's the clincher...she is NOT under the care of a doctor with this and she says her husband has gotten good with glucagon because she has at least one episode per month of dropping too low. Does this not make alot of sense to anyone else? This to me sounds just crazy!

Sounds crazy to me too, I never heard it was available in Canada, it usually takes longer to bring things out here! I understand not being under an endo care, I haven't a problem with that. The only reason I have one is so I can continue pumping, my insurance requires it now.

I wouldn't be taking anything from another country that was taken off the market.. it was taken off for a reason.. I didn't think inhaled insulin worked for T1s?

I thought it wasn't a matter of it not working, just requiring huge amounts? But regardless, sounds crazy to me!

Our endo told us it was taken off because it was hard to ensure an accurate dose with inhaling, plus lack of interest. Not enough people wanted to mess with it to make it worth producing.

I guess it makes sense that she'd get it elsewhere if it were taken off the market here and she really liked it. But not having a dr to oversee her care in general seems crazy. Oh, and going too low that often is crazy too!

yes, sounds crazy to me. I thought that inhaled insulin was for T2, not T1 (maybe on the same idea as the pill for T2 and not T1)

I thought that a few cases of lung cancer had developed in some of the people on inhaled insulin. They were not sure if it was the insulin or coincidence. Guess she is gambling with her health.
