Default Genetic testing

Someone I was talking to mentioned a genetic blood test that they could run on one of the girls that would tell if Celiac came from 1 or 2 parents. Anyone know what this is and what exactly it does indicate? I'm not totally sure the info she had is accurate.

Hi,

As you know, CD is a genetic auto-immune disease [6-8% of Type 1 D's also have CD]. We know that the girls have CD, so, it means that your and or hubby has the genetic make for CD.

Genetic testing would allow you to know if you and/or your hubby are at risk for CD. Depending on that testing...your family or hubby's family would be at risk too. I'll venture to guess that others in your family [your siblings or parents, etc], or hubby's family exhibit or already have some type of auto-immune disease.

The current line of thinking is that: If you don't have the genetic make up for CD, you can't get it. Currently most docs will test for DQ2 and DQ8. However, they are discovering more genes connected to CD [and other autoimmune diseases]. Which raises a question in my mind..."How can docs be so confident and say you'll never get CD just because you've only been tested for the two KNOWN genes?".

Here's some genetic testing info:

So it sounds like the genetic testing would be useless since they are only looking for certain markers and may not know all that should be looked for. I'll have to read over the articles when my brain is functioning.
Time for bed!
