Red face Lost & Found

Just curious if any of you are in the same boat as me.

I used to take time to fix myself up, look decent. But ever since Ian's dx, I can't seem to get up early enough to take care of myself first then the kids. I go through most days looking like something the dogs dragged in...only worse
I know I have to make efforts, but another day goes by and no change.
I'm not complaining (ok, maybe just a tad), but I really admire those who are able to be so disciplined about themselves.
Sometimes I'm even taking a shower at midnight after I test Ian and blow-dry my hair, but in the morning it looks really awful. Let's not even tallk about make-up...I'm the poster-girl for the 'before' pictures...

How do you guys do it? Any hints/secrets?

ya I would like to know that to.the only way I can get a shower is with the kids in there with me .my hubby works all day and when he comes home after work he does outside stuff.when I get out of the shower with the kids I have to chase them around to get them dressed and kc's diaper on before any peeing happens.by the time they have clothes on and have there hair brushed ,mine is dry and frizzy.half the time we don't even bother until after supper sometime to get a shower.sometimes I am lucky if I get out of my pajamas before noon.I just had a well meaning person offer to come to my house to cut my hair ( a freind of a freind)without me saying a word .made me feel kind of dumpy .usually I only have time to pull my hair back in a ponytail,I used to curl it really nice. but that took alot of time and effort that I just don't have any more.maybe soon I will get back to doing all of that stuff again.

Paula it might just be me but I seriously can't walk out of the house without atleast eye make up on. My family loves when I just leave my hair curly and walk out the door.. me Ewwww I think I would scare people and children... They don't know why I have to straighten my hair every day and get in the shower. It drives my family crazy. I just wake up early enough now when everyone is sleeping so I dont have to rush. And waking up early in the morning means ALOT of coffee..lol.. I do think I am self concious about myself though. I have friends that will get in the shower at night do their hair just so they can sleep in, in the mornings..
I have also realized that we need to take care of ourselves also.. I wish I could walk out of the house every day with a hat on and be on my way..lol..

I remember it being super hard to have time for yourself when the kids are so little and you can't leave them for a second.

Can you take a shower and dry your hair before your hubby leaves for work in the morning?...he can keep an eye on the kiddos. I know when I take a shower and get dressed first thing in the morning, the whole day just seems to go better. I just feel more energized. If I hang around in the PJ's for too long, I just get lazier and nothing gets done (like right now).

That's really great!! I wish I had that motivation, but I use the ostrich-approach...I put on whatever, no make-up, and hope there is enough sand out there so I can bury my head and noone will notice Sometimes I even forget I have house slippers on, and do my grocery shopping. I get the weirdest stares too, but only when I get home do I notice why I think I need to be more conscious...LOL...

LMAO.. Oh my gosh Paula I am cracking up at you. I do see tons of moms at the grocery store with slippers on and sometimes pajama pants.. I go wow They must have had a rough day with their kids..
Just like Taximom said I do feel more energized when I get up and get into the shower and make myself up. And I am sure you look perfectly fine and not like you need to bury your head...
Join us one day and get up early and do your thing. Then let us know if lounging around is much better..

I agree with you. I feel like I've aged 10 years since Greg was diagnosed. I am currently teaching our Extended School Year Program, which is much more relaxed and casual, but still, I find myself leaving every morning with my hair in a pony tail and flip flops on my feet...no makeup, etc. It's sad. I really need to get myself together. But I'm not getting in bed until 10 or 11, and then Greg has to be checked at night, and then I'm out of bed at 5:30. By the time I take a shower, get dress, dress the kids, feed the kids, pack the bags for the sitter, fill out the charts, give the meds, etc., it's 6:30 and we're running out the door. I don't see how I could get up any earlier without being a zombie. So for now, I guess I'm just stuck looking like one.

I think it's a really crowded boat
I do best when I have my "mommy uniform" Jeans that fit, colorful tanks, a fitted no iron white ( or colored) shirt, a "pashmima" scarf or two. It get's dull but it makes getting out the door easy
But if it's a work at home day? Urgh, don't come knocking at my door if you know what's good for you
On the hair front, I have naturally obnoxious hair. I usually air dry and then hit it with a curling iron to tame the frizz. Prescriptives mineral foundation, a good lipstick and mascara, that's all I can manage.
I always admire those Moms who carve out time for themselves, I don't know how they do it, but I'd like to learn more hint,hint....

You can do it! Go to bed a little earlier and set that damn alarm clock and make a big ole pot of coffee (preprogram it for 6:00AM, so it's waiting for you)! Caffeine is key here.
