Default Triabetes

http://triabetes.org/index.html

Triabetes is a group of 14 Type 1 Diabetics who do the Ironman. For those that do not know what the Ironman lenth triathlon consist of: swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles in that order. They will be participating in the Wisconsin Ironman in September of 2008.
"During the Triabetes team’s intensive training period, athlete data will be processed for use in a comprehensive clinical research study. Simultaneously, the athletes and research team will be working alongside computer programmers to develop an online diabetes management utility, which will help them analyze their data more critically. Eventually this application will be available to general public so that people who hope to improve their diabetes management won’t need to become an Ironman—they’ll just have to think like one."
My brother does triathlons and will be doing Ironman WI, so I will be there watching and cheering. He did a tri today and got 4th in his age (missed 3rd by .9 sec) and 18th out of 500. Here are a few pics of him from today; he is in a blue.

I hope to be able to meet some of them while I'm there. These guys are a great inspiration to me and I'm sure many others. I will be doing my first triathalon at the end of July, the benefits go to Children's Hospital. I just started training- its super short: 1/8 mi swim, 7.5 mi bike, and 1.65 mi run, but im still going to need to work hard. It will be interesting and exciting!

My bro had a triathlon today so I was there from 7 to 4. My mom and I spotted a guy with a Triabetes jersey on! I cheered for him and said "Go Triabetes. You rock!" He turned around and waved to me. We also met a lady that has a gchild and niece with T1D. She had on a walk shirt so my mom went and talked to her. Oh my numbers were horrible and I'm ridiculously sunburn! My bro did very well, other than being pretty sick when he got to the finishline. They have medical staff at the finish line to "catch" people- He had one guy grab him as he was about to fall on his face then 3 more people ran over to him. He could barely stand up- walking was funny to watch but it was kinda scary! They gave him water and coke, then sat him down and stayed with him for a few more minutes. After he cooled down a bit he went to the med tent (still walking in lala land) He is fine now and beat his previous record for that length by over 30 minutes so he is super happy. I wanted to look for the Triabetes guy, but was busy worry about my bro and didnt see him come through the finish
....... 1 week to my first tri!
