Default BD Exiting the Glucose Monitoring Business

Today BD announced that they are exiting the glucose monitoring business.

They will continue to sell test strips for the BD Logic and Paradigm Link meters until the end of December 2007 (more than a year from now), so if you use a BD meter there's no need to rush to change.

For more information, see the consumer letter at:

If you call abbott they will send you a free meter, You can get the freestyle flash or the freestyle freedom. When stacey was diagnosed the doctor gave us a bd logic, and a few months later I found out they was not making this meter no longer after 2007. they sent us the freedom with a stater supply of 100 test strips it is worth calling about. But you must be a bd logic user to get the meter and free strips. Just thought I would share this with eveyone.

Default BD Meters will continue!!

I recently received a letter from BD saying that they have sold their blood glucose monitoring business to Sanvita. Sanvita will continue to supply test strips for the BD logic and Paradigm Link. THis means there is no need to go get a different meter.

As a side note... I just received a Freestyle Flash last week for free (but not the strips - darn!). I simply called Abbot & explained that my son had one at home & school & now with my daughter newly dx we'd like her to have 2 also (we had one) so they sent one out, no problem. Unfortunately this isn't our insurances "preferred brand" for strips so I pay a little higher copay, but this seems to be the easiest one for my kids to use by themselves.

Has anyone had problems with the BD machines not being accurate? I wonder if that is why they sold them.
