Default Monday, April 14th is Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Day, What are you gonna do?

So I guess Monday, April 14th has been deamed Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Day. http://sixuntilme.com/

What are you going to do to get the word out?

I just put a signature line in my email signature that announced Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Day and gives 5 things I want everyone to know about type 1 diabetes (stollen from a previous thread)

I would like to know if anyone has a good type 1 diabetes email that we could all send out on Monday? Like a "please forward this" kind of email. I know they have been discussed.

Maybe we could all wear some sort of diabetes apparel on Monday? Like a team walk t-shirt or something?

Any other ideas?

True, this is more of a grass roots movement.

Originally I was all excited about this, and I've lost steam about it. I am going to post on another message board where I'm a "regular" maybe signs and symptoms or something like that. I'll put my CWD ribbon magnet on my vehicle.

I wanted to get the t shirt to wear - but at $35.00 a pop - and the fact that it was just made available - I really can't. I may make some note cards about T1 and leave them in the break room at work, etc...

Carrie at www.sixuntilme.com is where I have heard the most about it.

Here's the original idea for it:

I love the idea of a chain email.

Ok, here's my chain email that I think I'm sending. Feel free to use it if you want:

Hello Friends,
as you all know I hate chain emails but this is one that I had to send.

Monday April 14th is Type 1 Diabetes Alert Day. As you all know, our lives have forever been changed by Type 1 Diabetes but as I type this, I realize that many people don't know exactly what Type 1 Diabetes is, and how it differs from it's more common cousin Type 2. Type 1 Diabetes Alert Day is a day where we can all learn exactly what Type 1 diabetes IS and ISN'T.

Some facts about Type 1 Diabetes:
* Type 1 Diabetes can strike at any age, it doesn't only target children, though it is more common to get Type 1 Diabetes as a child.
* Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease much like Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis or Multiple Sclerosis. The body has attacked itself, in this case, the pancreas has attacked the cells that make insulin.
* People with Type 1 Diabetes are completely dependent on insulin to stay alive.
* There is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
* You cannot outgrow it.
* It cannot be cured by diet or exercise (or with cinnamon, fish oil, foil hats or any other "cure")
* you do not get it by having a bad diet, or by eating too many sweets.
* Type 1 diabetes is no worse or more severe than Type 2. It is simply different.
* People with Type 1 diabetes are not prohibited from eating sweets. They simply must eat a balanced diet like everyone else.

Type 1 Diabetes isn't:
* Type 1 Diabetes isn't caused by something we did or didn't do to ourselves or our children.
* Type 1 Diabetes isn't contagious.
* Type 1 Diabetes isn't a death sentence.
* Type 1 Diabetes doesn't prevent us or our children from doing everything possible in life.

Please share this information with as many people as you can. The misconceptions about Type 1 Diabetes are endless and the entire Type 1 Diabetes community is taking this opportunity to put an end to these misconceptions . Through the greater awareness of the truth about Type 1 Diabetes we hope to advance people and organizations who are dedicated to finding a cure.

I don't see any 35.00 tee shirt there. Unless you're buying them from somewhere else but that' the ONLY place you should be getting them from.
