Default When do you keep them home from school?

Do you keep your child home from school for blood sugar related reasons? At what point do you do this? I am wondering because yesterday Deacon seemed a bit out of it but once he got to school he was fine. He had a breakfast spike that didn't sit well with him. I have never had to keep Deacon home from school because of his diabetes. I am wondering what are the reasons to keep him home.

BTW, Deacon is in a early childhood program. He is there for half days and will be staying in the program until he is eligible for Kindergarten.

I have never kept Seth home for bg reasons unless he was low and I just waited the short time until he was good. But, he has never had more than small keytones once. If he had keytones, I would keep him home. Other than that, he goes to school and drinks water in class. If they had a test or something, his teacher would let him re-take it no problem if he didn't do well..Also,highs don't make him feel sick. If they did, I might keep him home for a while...It's probably very individual

Many highs do not cause Deacon to feel sick but yesterday he seemed off. I know that the doctor instructed the school that if Deacon has a reading above 400 he is to be sent home.

If Seth seemed off, I would keep him home too...Please don't feel like just because Seth hasn't had to stay home, I don't think others should. YDMV

Deacon did feel better later. It happened 15 minutes before the bus came to pick him up. I called the school's nurse to let her know and she checked on him. She said he was doing fine and having a blast. I was just wondering what others parents perimeters is with this.

I have taken Molly to school late (like a couple hours) for bg reasons. Trying to bring a bad high down. I would have no problem keeping her home if we were having totally crazy bg numbers, or her numbers were making her feel bad

I have kept home if there are ketones - just until I'm sure they are gone- so they may be a couple of hours late for school. If they have been high, they phone me from school at a preagreed upon time so I know that the numbers are resolving themselves.
I have kept them home from skating/skiing practise if they have been struggling with their numbers -for instance on Wednesday, my daughter had had 3 lows in the past 24 hours so I kept her home so we could deal with the adjustments and I wanted to take exercise out of the equation.
If they are sick, they are kept home.

I try really hard not to. I've only ever taken her home for bad lows. She's had a few days where there is just no keeping the poor kid above 60, then she feels so icky and tired she isn't really learning anyways.

Right now, the endo says no school above 300 or below 70. I think its because he isnt consistent right now. But Id say, diabetes or not, go with your gut.
