Default Knowing neighbor/coach???

So yesterday I stop by my friends local store, she has one of the letters I wrote asking for sponsorship up on her wall One of Seth's old soccer coaches sees his pic up on her wall. After reading it he says to my friend, "she should just let him go by himself, Seth is very responsable he would be fine without her going" Like it's no big deal and I'm overreacting he doesn't have any clue into what goes into taking care of D. No way would I let Seth go to the complete other side of the country without me for a week. We live in CA, and were going to D.C. and NYC. He is a responsable kid, but he doesn't adjust his insulin and still sometimes forgets to eat snacks while exercising...I want to call and school him, but I don't want my friend to lose his business...So I'm telling you guys instead thanks for being here for me to tell

Other people always see the best of our children, diabetes or not. It finally hit me a couple of years ago after I complimented one of my close friends about how well-behaved her children always were and she looked at me like I had two heads. And then she pointed out that people say the same thing about my kids.... Ahhhhh! Light bulb moment.

And then, diabetes isn't called the 'silent' disease for nothing.

Still, I'd have a hard time holding my tongue the next time I saw the guy. Not in a mean way, you know, but I'd feel I just HAD to educate him about diabetes.

Heather,

No he doesn't have a clue. No one will ever have any true understanding of what goes into caring for our children. And that's okay. Because for them to understand, they need to live it.

I'd let it go. He obviously thinks highly of Seth which is great. And you don't want to get your friend in the middle. Just do what you need to do to keep Seth safe on the trip. And don't worry about the other stuff. ((HUGS))

Well you could look at it from the point of view that your son's behavior has made a positive impression on an adult and that don't seem to happen nearly as often as you think it should and with that being the case, you can take the soccer coaches remark as a compliment. Yeah he might not know dink about D but Seth must be a likable boy none the less to to get a comment like that.
