Default a parent trying to find answers

I am at a loss for what to do. My youngest daughter has had some on going issues, that just keep getting brushed aside.

I look at the symtoms for Type 1, and Lacey seems to fit most. She just had 'stomach flu' and we thougth she was going to end up in the hospital.

She has vomiting, the smelly breath, she lost two lbs, and was very weak. The doctor said she was weak because she wasn't holding down food. and she was dehydrated, but she didn't want to go through the iv and hospital only to scare her. She had held down everything that day so we would wait and see.

I want her tested to see what is going on. I am scared for her, I just don't know which is better, a blood test or urine test. And how soon will we have results.

My insurance has just changed, and we are going to a new doctor. Should I just say "TEST HER"??

I don't see any reason why you couldn't demand a test. Remember, Drs work for you! In the meantime, you could get a blood glucose meter and test her yourself if it would put your mind at ease. Do you know anyone with a meter? You can find them at the local grocery store too.

My father has type 2, oddly enough Lacey is the only kid that likes to watch my dad test his blood and give himself the shot. Strange kid!!!

We have to run to town today, maybe I will just get a monitor. It can't be a waste of money if it helps to answer questions right?

I have read many of these postings, and they scare me to death. The outside world doesn't know what you and your kids go through.

Godspeed for a cure.

Hi there. I am sorry your daughter has not been feeling well. How is she feeling now? If she in fact has diabetes, she can get very sick very quickly (to the point of life-threatening), so please get her to a doctor right away. Tell him that you suspect it might be diabetes. You should be able to take her today! Don't take no for an answer! If your doctor is non-cooperative, take her to the closest ER. They will be able to test her there. The simplest test is a blood sugar test. This will establish if her blood sugars are in the target range. You can also get urine strips to test blood sugars and acidity but I would let the doctor handle this. The results will be right away.

I would like to stress again...please don't delay taking her in...if in fact she has diabetes, it is an emergency that she is being seen today!! Please keep us posted. We will be thinking of you and hoping for the best!!

There are many things that could be the cause of your daughter's problems. One sure sign of diabetes is trememdous thirst and hunger all the time.

Lacey is feeling better now. She has managed to hold down food and liquid for almost a week now.

She is quite a trooper. Lacey consumes more fluid that I do on a regular basis. And she is eating non stop, I just don't know if that is because she is trying to catch up from being sick or what. She has always been a good eater, and Zoe is a picky eater.

Thank you for all your advise.

Go get a glucose meter and check her yourself. Then let us know what the results are? Hoping for the best

Just to keep in mind, the flu is going around right now too. What part of MI are you from? How old is Zoe?

Lacey is my five year old that has been sick. I wouldn't worry if this was a one time thing, but it has been a semi regular thing. And she has had random symtoms so I wasn't as concerned before, but it seems to be coming to a head.

Honestly I hope I am overreacting, and it is nothing. But we will see after I have her tested.

Instead of buying a meter, can you use your dad's to check her?
