Question symptoms???

I have been reading about Celiac and have a few questions?? My DS has always had diarrhea and the stinkiest poopy diapers, my other children have never stunk this bad. He is small for age. He is 3 and 36 inches and 26 pounds. He tested negative for antibodies for T1. He has and endo appt Wed should I have him tested? What were your children's symtoms??

Thanks,
Cathy

Those could be symptoms. Celiac has SO many symptoms. They range from diarrhea to constipation. Do you see where I am going with this? You could ask them to test him. Our endo tests all the kids in the clinic at their yearly blood draw.

These symptoms should be brought up to his pedicatrician as well.

T had no symptoms only an elevated screening. After that we consulted a pediatric gastro and had the upper endoscopy completed for the diagnosis.

If you are questioning whether it is celiac, I would for sure have your child tested. The thought of having celiac can be overwhelming but once you've started making the necessary food changes, it's not so bad. And think of how much better your child will feel.

Caleb had his appt back in Jan and we were told that he did not need to be tested because he had grown an inch between this appt and his last one. Could you have Celiac and grow normally?

Thanks, Cathy

Yes. Westin never had any reason to suspect celiac. He was only tested because of his diabetes.

Jess has always been small but she has always stayed on her own growth curve. She was only tsted in December becuase it was routine.

The GI dr said that if he didnt have her bloodwork showing she was so high, that he wouldnt have been talking to us because 1. she had no sypmtoms, and 2. she had been grwoing and gaining weight

My son Declan is a type 1 and his toddler belly never went away and he always had a lot of gas, but we are a gassy family so I did not think much about it. But I do remember saying to my self on occasion he had strange stools they had a funny sheen to them. He was dx with T1 9/05 and Celiac 5/07 which was done as part of routine testing. His twin who is 5 inches taller and 10lbs heavier had the blood work done and his was also positive for celiac and he had the endoscopy which showed the early stages of destruction of the villi. In looking back at pictures of Declan he had the symptoms of celiac disease long before he had the diabetes with the ribs sticking out the bloated belly and skinny arms and legs, but the diabetes was dx first.

My dd was fine on the height and weight charts. She complained periodically of stomach aches, which we thought might be because of high blood sugars. With her yearly screening we discovered she had Celiac. Her Gastro Dr. said plenty of kids a asymptomatic.

Her endo said they used to do all blood work once a year, but they along with the insurance companies decided they would do it every 2 (I think) years, unless there were problems.
