Interesting article; thanks for the link. I had an old friend H.S. dx'd at 44 years old with Type 1; he was so sick by the time they finally figured out what he had.
BTW, did you know Dr. S is leaving the practice? Sorry if this is old news to you; my neighbor just told me. Lisa

That's a very interesting article. My dad was diagnosed with Type 2 several years ago and he struggles daily with control. He's on oral medications as well as insulin injections. However, I think his problems (varying between extreme highs and extreme lows and seizures, etc.) are more due to not monitoring frequently enough. He only tests his bg once in the morning and once before bed. He won't listen to anything I advise because I've only been doing this for 6 years. He's been doing it for 20. I know Type 1 and Type 2 are totally different, but you still need to monitor your bg regularly no matter which type you have, IMO.
I do have a friend that was diagnosed with Type 2 a few years ago. He's on insulin injections and has commented that he never gets below 300. Not good at all. He thinks it's "normal" for him. This article may apply to him. I believe I'll share it with him.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Aimee.
My neighbor gave me the scoop last week. She is leaving the end of September, so if you have Hana's app't before school starts, you'll be ok. Neighbor was not crazy about the new endo~not much of a personality at all. Yes, we went to CHOP and so far they are great. Soooo much more technologically advanced with a huge staff. Our nurse is so sweet and upbeat. Aidan has an app't the end of August to discuss CGMs in Princeton. All you have to do there is ask they give it to you - no arguing or telling me stuff like "it hurts". I needed a form for Aidan for camp and they faxed it within an hour; no begging and pleading for a month, lol. Go to www.chop.edu/diabetes and look for the box on the right to request an app't by e-mail. They will send you a transfer package (not too much paperwork for you to fill out). The hardest part of the process: getting Aidan's damn medical records from you know who. It took a month of repeated phone calls and e-mails to get his records. Good luck, enjoy the rest of your summer!

The CHOP in Princeton, is this where all the appts would be? I am in plainsboro and that would be SO convenient. Our current Dr is in New Brunswick. We have been with him since diagnosis (6 years). I like the Dr, my husband is less than thrilled with him. The DE just quit and the nursing staff is not really nice. Tempted to switch, but since we seem to be doing fine to this point, we haven't. Is CHOP accepting new patients? How many drs are in that practice? Do they have certain days that are "diabetes days"? Thanks for the info! Where in Jersey are you guys?

Sorry to derail your thread Aimee!!!
Sari, it would incredibly convenient for you; the address is 707 Alexander Road, Princeton; quite close to the new hospital (I'm in Monroe). Do you currently go to RWJ or St. P's in New Brunswick? The initial visit is in Philadelphia and takes about two hours. Visits after that can be in Princeton. The Princeton satellite office hours are on Mondays and Thursdays only. They take new patients and there are literally dozens of endos and nurses in Philadelphia, look at the link I posted above. Good luck, feel free to ask me any questions.

We are in Hunterdon County (Clinton Area). We currently go to St Peters in New Brunswick but have not been happy with them. Only went there because that is where we were transferred from the ER at our local hospital when Hana was dx. Now that the female dr is leaving, that gives me even more reason to try and find a new practice. Princeton is about 45 minutes from us. A bit further than NEw Brunswick but worth it, I'm sure.
