Default Help from extended bolus users please.

Could you please give some insight as to what may have happened with this extended bolus attempt? My brian is mushy from shopping (hate it).
Supper tonight was a hamburger and fries at our favorite local, family owned, Greek restaurant. I (was) pretty confident in the carb count for this meal.

6:21p...128bg...80carbs...
.....>>60% up front (5.40u) -> 40% over 2 hrs (3.55u)
9:00p...249bg
930p...3.3u...30carbs (ate the 30carbs about 15 min later)
10:30p...82bg...treated with 10carb (lots iob-felt dropping)
10:45p...94bg
11:30p...135...1.475 iob

Need more upfront I suppose but I can't imagine that big ol' hamburger was done digesting at 9:30. I guess I didn't expect the 2 hr extended to have a dramatic impact like it seems to have had at 9:30 (wish we had a bg check there). Maybe it's as simple as an overbolus.

Thanks so much!

Perhaps a bit more upfront with the rest extended for a longer time? Or, if the upfront amount was not pre- bolused, pre- bolusing it a bit?

Did the 3.3 units given at 9:30 include any correction? If it did, that might account for the love BGs 1-2 hors later, but from the earlier bolus amount, perhaps it didn't.

So she ate at 6:30 and ate again at 9:30 with an extended bolus already going?

The 3.3 units, how much of that was correction, and how much was for the food? (If it wasn't all for the food.) (edit: oops, didn't see Virgo had already asked this! )

Everyone is different of course, but we've never done an extended bolus for that long for a hamburger and fries. Have you done it for that long in the past with success?

Or was this more carbs (starchy bun / fries type) than she normally has?

For a hamburger and fries, we'd extend over five hours. But eating 30 more carbs in the middle of the extended bolus would be a mess for us.

No correction at 9:00 or 9:30

We've done 70/30 over 1 hr but still went a little low at 1.5 hrs. Honestly, I just made it 2 hr extend this time to see what would happen.

Not really, she is a carb hound. She ususally has carb loaded meal ~ 3-5 times a week.

Yes

Why is that? I can't seem to work it out. Because the results of the extend and snack bolus overlap? The snack was chips so I thought that would fast enough acting to avoid problems.

The next couple checks:
2:00a...173...corrected
wakeup...133...with a stuffy nose.

Thanks for the replies and thoughts.

It just adds another variable. I assume the slow-digesting food would slow the digestion of the chips too, and I'd have zero idea how to account for that. My gut feeling is that I'd only do a partial straight bolus for the chips, and maybe wait a while (an hour) and dose for the rest, but I'd be flying by the seat of my pants.

Frankly, your results were pretty good. You could try 75% up front next time and see what happens. (We typically do 70 or 75% up front and 50% over 5 hours, but every kid is different.) I'd also dose conservatively for something like the chips eaten while the previous food is digesting. But all-in-all, you did well with a tough meal.
