Default 5 Year old just diagnosed

Hello all - our 5 year old Taylor was diagnosed last week. Its been a whirlwind of learning and injections and confusion. We still have a lot to learn of course but feel like we are making real progress with what we have had to deal with the last week.

We would love to find another kid about her age (and family) that is dealing with this - we are on the southern part of Denver in Highlands Ranch.

Anyway we are told to look forward to when we can use a pump, but we dont know to much about that yet,

Jason

HI and Welcome, Jason. Sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnoses, but glad you found CWD. Its a great place to learn.

Have you tried your doctor's office about contacting another family? Sometimes they have a list of families that are willing to be contacted when a new family is diagnosed. or ask them if they have a support group around. Summer camp is another great way to find new friends and people in your area.

Default Welcome

Welcome to the forum. My son is 5 1/2 and was diagnosed at 2 1/2. At diagnosis you definitely feel hit by a whirlwind - and just survive day to day for a while. Things will get better!

Visit this site for questions and support!

Hi Jason,
Welcome to the boards, though sorry you are had reason to find them. You are not alone!! My son is 4 and was diagnosed at 13 months. We live just north of Denver. If you go to BDC, they have a support group for parents once a month and that is one way to find other families dealing with diabetes. Feel free to send me a message!

Andi

I emailed a friend, Lauren, who also lives in Highlands Ranch, to ask her to contact you. Her daughter is now 18, has had diabetes since 1996. Though her daughter is going away do college any day now, her other daughter, age 15, might be able to babysit.

Hi Jason...welcome, and sorry you have to join us. Perhaps the local chapter of JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) can help you? Go to their website, and look from there.

Good luck!

Hi Jason,
The BDC is the Barbara Davis Center located on the campus of University Hospital in Aurora off of Colfax & I-225. I second the idea of getting in touch with the local JDRF.

Hi Jason,
The JDRF is another great resource for meeting families . I admit, always forget to mention them. There are some regional groups that get together for coffee etc.
