has anyone experienced irritation after removing a pod? My son's skin looks ok when I remove a pod and within a couple of minutes it gets iritated and rashy looking, I apply A&D ointment on it and it takes days to heal. we rotate between arms and legs and same on all.
Would appreciate any help ,thanks

If the pod is on there really good then you might be seeing a thin layer of skin coming off. You can find a few products that will loosen the glue. I can't say off the top of my head because we don't use them.
We do, however, get some redness in the exact shape of the pod sometimes and I think it's just sticking too much. We will use either triple ointment or cream or hydrocortizone cream. It usually doesn't bother him but it is a little red. If it itches then the HC cream might be the way to go.

Is it irritated where the cannula was or where the adhesive was? What we have done from day 1, and I don't know where I learned this, was to dab a little bit of Neosporin antibiotic ointment on the spot where the cannula was as soon as it is removed. It seems to stop any flare ups. I know when my son first takes it off the cannula spot looks a little inflamed but within a minute or 2 it's fine.

i can try the HC cream since he does claim it itches. it is red and rashy looking where the adhesive was in the shape of the pod itself. the area of where the cannula was is usually pretty clean and not irritated at all.
Should I try to placing the pod and not pressing over the adhesive or try applying something before palcing the pod? thanks

I was having issues before that were like what you're describing.
I found that if I sprayed Benadryl spray (not gel or cream or anything else Benadryl, HAS TO BE the spray) on the site and let it COMPLETELY dry before putting the pod on, I wasn't having those reactions anymore after removing the pod. Just know that if you use the spray, it dries insanely clear, so it's easy to "lose" the spot that you sprayed.

thank you so much for all the suggestions, my por little guy is 6 and there is not much space on his arms and legs and with all the spots irritated it was getting to be frustrating for both of us. I will try the benedryl spray in the attempt to avoid the irritation when removing the pod. I will post my results. thanks again to all that posted suggestions.

Bethany was experiencing the same exact issues when we first had her on the pod but after trying many different things I have found the following to work wonders and have not strayed from this procedure in over 5 years.
1.) After cleaning the area with an alcohol prep, apply 3m cavalon skin barrier wipe thoroughly to the area...the entire area that the pod will be placed on. You must use the wipes as the spray takes forever to dry. Then after its dry, place the pod on the skin and proceed with the insertion as usual. I also use opsite tape to help the pod stay attached better. 2.) Use "desolve it" it to remove. Spray under the pod and let it sit for about 5 minutes waiting for the adhesive to be thoroughly saturated and for it to work. Remove it with a cotton pad soaked in more desolve it slowing to ensure that you get all that jelly goo off that the cavalon barrier turns into after being sprayed with the desolve it. 3.) Cleanse area with a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel and dry thoroughly (air dry is best but I do pat it dry with a paper towel when we are impatient). 4.) at this point I put on a small band aid covering where the catheter was after applying a small amount of neosporin on the catheter site. 5.) Apply Aveeno anti-itch concentrated lotion on the site and make sure it's dry before covering it with clothing. Try these steps and I assure you that you will no longer have this issue!!

Before removing a pod, we wet the tape with baby oil. It pretty much falls off on it's own within about 30 minutes, and it's stopped any irritation/peeling that happened when we removed it without anything.

We use these:
