Our kids are expected to clean up after themselves. It doesn't always happen without reminders.
. They all put their clothes away and help set and clear the table. Each of them has a daily chore and a weekly chore. Their daily chore should take them less than 20 minutes and their weekly chore should take them an additional 20 minutes once a week. Daily chores range from cleaning up the dog poo with long handles scoopers and throwing it in the woods ( our youngest) to vacuuming the livingroom (our oldest.).

My boys are 10 & 7, I expect them to clean up after themselves (laundry picked up, rooms clean, dishes in the sink, etc)... My 10 year old has more freedom to go play with friends, he has a phone, etc... so I expect more from him. He has to vaccuum the house once a week, he gets the mail every day (it's down the street), he is responsible for feeding/watering the pets and cleaning out the piggy cage (guinea pigs), and he brings the trashcan back in after pickup.

Each day I give the kids a couple chores each. For my oldest, 11 yrs old, the list is usually:
Empty dishwasher Load the dishwasher Sweep Dust Clean mirrors Wipe down counters Empty bathroom garbage cans Fold his laundry and put away Every day they are expected to clear and set the table, tidy up their rooms, and do anything extra I might ask of them. Once a week they have to vacuum their rooms. They do get an allowance but if things are not getting done they lose their allowance for that week.
