Hello everyone, been ages since I have visited this site but have a Diabetic Issue going on at the moment and thought I would run it by you guys.
Muir is five now and after a mostly hypo free time at nursery he started Primary school in August. He is on four a day injections, mainly becasue he suffers with asthma, which in turns plays havoc with his diabetes but the going onto the four a day helps give us more control. The point being I am going into school each lunchtime to do the injection! School happily check his blood twice a day and treat hypo situations. They are quite experienced at all that as there are three other diabetic children further up the school and a diabetic teacher. I am persuing the matter of the school taking on board the administration of this injection. A frustratingly slow process but I am confident we will get there eventually. Was wondering if anyone else had seen the Policy for Diabetes Care in Schools that has been implemented by Fife Council? Myself and a group of mums here in Moray are pushing our local council to adopt this Policy, again a slow process! Last week, as part of the JDRF get people talking about Type 1, we emailed all of our local councillors and all the Scottish Members of Parliament explaning about some of the problems our kids face when dealing with their diabetes in schools, along with a copy of the Policy. So far the responses have been mostly positive and supportive. But we are looking at ways to bring the Policy to the attention of more parents with a view of gathering support and spreading the word. Anyone interested in finding out more, please get in touch. Karen x
