My four year old son is in the pre-clinical stage of type 1 diabetes. see parents writing in asking about the likelihood of having another member of their immediate family (a child or sibling) develop diabetes, and I have seen your response that there is only a 2%-5% chance. I see so many situations in which type 1 is passed on that your numbers of 2%-5% shock me! Where are you getting your figures?

In my role as Welfare Officer for our local Multiple Sclerosis (MS) branch, I have had a call from the husband of a member who has chronic progressive MS, has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Her treatment plan is difficult because she has care givers who visit to help with meals, etc., who visit only twice a day. Can let me know of any experience of diabetes and MS or can point me to a web resource?

My 14-year-old son takes one Centrum Multivitamin/MultiMineral Supplement. It was brought to my attention via a family member who is very much into health and fitness that I should consider giving my son a trace mineral called chromium. What is your opinion about chromium? I’ve decided to research on children with diabetes for a staff member, and I’m seeing information about an insulin pump. I’ve searched but cannot find a definition for an insulin pump. What exactly is it? Does it replace the use of syringes? How large is it? Does it have to be prescribed by a physician or does a parent just go out and get one?

A family member, who has type 2 diabetes and was in the hospital for a long stay, developed a bedsore on the buttocks, and we are looking for additional suggestions to help the healing. I saw that there is a gel for foot ulcers being looked at that helps healing. Would this be something that can be used in this situation? Any other suggestions?
