Finally home from Winnipeg. Ethan had an eeg to check for abnormal seizure activity. The neurologists said we should have him on a low dose of ativan to curb seizures....that was before the eeg results! No way! The results are fine and it is all related to low BG. Just like I thought. So we went over to our endos and signed up for part 1 of pump school during christmas break which is the saline trial. Then I found a new family doctor in a town about 45 minutes away and they have a 7 year old that just switched to the minimed about 2 weeks ago. I called up the family and we had a good chat. She was very informative with the insurance part. They love their pump and wouldn't give it back! So now I have all my paperwork sent out and am waiting to hear from the minimed rep on my insurance issues. What a week!

I reread your question. I am not sure if starting both pump and CGM would be too much info overload or not. If you did start CGM at the same time it would help figuring out basals etc. If you endo group feels you can handle both then I would go ahead. You mentioned that you like things predicable. Having a Pump and CGM I would think would help that. I feel more in control knowing what is going on and being able to make precise adjustments on the pump.

I think the Navigator and the Dexcom are equally as accurate. Dexcom seems to follow highs better. Navigator gives one minute readings. Dexcom is easier to wear but can get ??? sometimes. Navigator is much larger and requires tape to hold and we always have bleeding upon insertion. My older son is wearing the Dexcom now and my younger son is back on the Navigator. The Dexcom seemed to bother his skin more after a while.
Good luck and try to get a free trial on a CGM that may help you decide.

If you currently do not have a pump I would meet with reps or if your endo has pump sessions where the pump reps come out I would go to that. It is picking what you are comfortable with really. I loved the Cozmo pump, I feel more advanced than any out there with its features but they are out of business now. I know you can get a Omnipod fake unit that looks like the real thing you can have sent to you for free. We are currently on the Animas and I do like the easy to read screen and the .025 basal increments. The CGMs are wonderful if your child can wear it. We have never tried the Minimed CGM but our NP at our endo office has worn it a lot. The Dexcom and the Navigator are both very accurate. Our NP wore the new Dexcom and was amazed.
