      Low risk of DKA, if the high was from a food, avoid it, otherwise discussion with doctor needed, and possibly new or raised levels of oral meds. My boss is taking care of her elderly in-laws who both have t2 and we bounce diabetes ideas around sometimes.

      Because insulin clears out ketones, people who have more insulin in their bodies are at much lower risk of DKA, even with identical blood sugars. It is much less common for t2s to go into DKA, but especially if it is longstanding, they take insulin, and/or they are really sick (like with pneumonia or the flu), it happens.
