My son is 14, dx'd at 13 and is now ready for the pump. I was really leaning towards the Medtronic because it had the intergrated CGM with it. Well after yalking to our Endo this week he spiked an intrest in the Dex by saying it could stay on for 2+ weeks.

Ryan is active (sports and lots of them) and an all around average wild teenage boy. I want something that will last, yet grow with him. I want something that will do what it is supossed to do. I know this whole venture will be a huge learning curve and I am not expecting it to be easy at all, but once we get going on it, after all the kinks get worked out I want something I can depend on and that will be pretty darn accurate.

That being said do you have any info, GOOD OR BAD that can help me decide???

Thanks for your help,

inset 30 gave her a very big bruise on her bum and lot of blood in the set.then we moved on to contact detach which was our choice already for her as she has absolutely no fat anywhere.i am just worried that with the adhesive rashes etc she wll be left only with very small space for the change of infusion set.
what cream do you all use to make the the sites/bums heal better and keep soft and supple.
i am just anxious about everything.keeping something 24/7 attached to a 4 year old is making me nervous.please share your thoughts and your experiences and also i wanted to ask 4-5 year old's parents that what i/c etc they have given by NP.my daughter will be beginning with .15 units basal and 1:60 gms carb ratio and correction BG will be 300 mg/dl. This all is to start with then we will monitor her closely..her insulin is starting on 25th.hope everything will be much better then.

Nate just started taking Accutane. He has swallowed the first 6 pills over the last three days. Now tonight, he has a mental block about it and cannot swallow a pill. He tried and tried, and it will not go down.

He's had this trouble before...can do it, then all of a sudden can't. I've tried slipping his pill into a spoonfull of ice cream; he's tried drinking something warm first; he's tilted his head back....he and I are both growing frustrated.

Does anyone have any different tips that we can try?

Thanks,
About the Book. Duffy is a fun loving four year old dog who just learned she is diabetic. But that does not stop her from coping with the change that lie before her. She had a life before diabetes, and she is determined to have a good life with diabetes. Duffy narrates her story, telling how she and her family supported each other and solved each dilemma to get life under control and back on track.

"Duffy's Dilemma" is a realistic fiction based on a family's true event. It is an inspirational family story of love and support. It is a learning tool for anyone coping with the feelings and adjustments resulting from a sudden health change. You will learn. You will smile. You will be comforted by mans best friend as Duffy shares her understanding and triumphantly discovers that she can still do most anything and keep joy in her life.
By trade, Montione started and continues to operate her biscotti bakery. Her experience with Duffy lead her to introduce a low carb biscotti. By sharing her experience, she hopes to increase awareness and understanding of diabetes as managable, allowing people and pets to live healthy and happy lives.
Illustrator. David Pimental, has been a designer, illustrator and artist in Massachusetts for over forty years. He photographed Duffy and her family then brilliantly illustrated each page.

OK,
You people who have convection ovens.

I have only had mine about a month. First time baking corned bread muffins. One of the tins (after baking) looks like a stiff wind hit the top of the mix as it baked. They kind of look like little a puff of air blew the top funny so the pouf out on one side.

Question? Does the air in the convection oven sometimes do this? They are kind of cute, but I can't think of why they look that way.....

Erik is having one day of good numbers and all went to h#$#. Went to get him in his jammies so that we can watch Shrek 3 on tv and found the cleo dangling down his pant leg. Site is intact is just came detached. Erik doesn't know how it happened or when it happened. Checked him and he is 401 and says he has 1.75 on board. I drew up 2 units and gave it to him. My suspicion is that it came detached before dinner. Now, I have to see which way the numbers will go. Oh, insulin god bring us some good #'s.

Bear with me - this could get long.

DS had been on 6.75 units of Lantus in the morning (2 years old, 38lbs). Novolog I:C breakfast - 1:20
Novolog I:C lunch - 1:20
Novolog I:C dinner - .5:20

We had decent control during the day, but he would run in the 200 and 300 over night and then finally got back in target around lunchtime, but I had to REALLY limit his mid-morning snack. I called our CDE and she said to transition his Lantus to 6 units at dinner time.

Over night last night, he ran low - to the point that I had to wake him up to give him a snack. Now he's running high during the day. I have changed his dinner Novolog to 1:20, as he was running in the 200s at bedtime. Tonight at dinner he was at 362. I have been giving him VERY limited between meal snacks (Maybe 8 carbs -that we aren't supposed to cover)

Tonight I gave him 5.5 units of Lantus so that he might not run so low over night, but I feel like I am setting him up to be in the 400s at dinner tomorrow night.

It seems like we can't find a dose of Lantus that doesn't make him run low initially, then high after it's been in his system around 15-18 hours.

Any advice? I am at my wit's end. I am calling his endo to order the pump on Monday (they want him on it and we have already done a trial with the Ping) It seems like I am not going to get any consistent control until he is constantly getting insulin.

TIA

I don't have time to devote to reading a series of books right now (I'm one of those can't-put-a-book down-to-feed-myself-let-alone-my-family kind of readers :o)
So is a very nearly 11 year old ready for this? She's an excellent reader but average maturity for her age.
