My Endo called me today after I emailed over all the info in my log book and I was told that he has called in a prescription for Lantus, as well as syringes ..I am to inject one unit every evening between 6-8pm

I was told this will help control my lows?

Not sure how this will work, but I will find out tonight and tomorrow..

Well, I'm glad to see at least something is starting. How are things with the tumor that has a "life of its own"?

Well, they believe it is on it's way out now that my numbers are starting to rise over time..My pancreas is still producing a little insulin at this time (honeymoon) and I am still having horrid lows..But the swings are massive, between the lows and the highs..

I never realized how tiring it all can get to go from high to low to low to high all day long..No wonder I am always wiped out at the end of the day:rolleyes:

Well, I'm in a little different situation than you because I don't have the crazy insulin tumor thing. But, I was really scared about taking lantus. Before I started lantus, I would have crazy high number, but they would always come down on their own to normal. So I thought that if I took Lantus, they would just come down even further. Not so, the lantus has totally evened things out. The goal was to get my fastings under 110 and I started with 1 unit/day and worked my way up to 10 units I'm on now. The only time I will go low is in the late morning (even before insulin I would always go lowest then), so I just need a 10 gram snack and I'm good for the entire day basal wise.

I hope things go well for you. Don't worry about 1 unit now, it will probably not make you go low at all.

What are your fasting numbers now? Are your lows at a predictable time or are they all over the place? Keep us posted!!

I have been awake since 3 am..I have to test at 3 so I did..I was 380  Right now they do not have me on any fast acting insulin so I drank water, and I am now down to 200..

I can tell when I am high at night, I have weird dreams:rolleyes:

I agree!!

I did get the high down with water and went back to bed..I was 90 this morning..Only one minor low this morning after I ran around here like a chicken with my head cut off..But it was only 77 and not the 50's or lower which was nice..

I was terrified to start Lantus because I felt like with just the fast acting insulin any mistake I made would be over with in a few hours. Lantus you inject it, and it's there for the whole 24 hrs. But it wasn't bad at all. My control immediately improved.

I am amazed at what 1 unit of Lantus is doing,,I have been in the lower 100's so far today..This is a first in a LONG time..:D I am beginning to like this..I still hate D, but I am happy that I finally have some control over it:)
