The last couple days (3) I have had a trace to moderate ketones but my blood sugar is within my normal limits (90-180). I called my Family Doctor (still no Endo due to Tricare) and she told me to go to the ER... I really do not feel like sitting in the ER for hrs on end just for them to tell me that Ketones can not happen with no High Blood Sugars. I am eatting normaly but I am afraid I might be in DKA and not know it... I have tested on the monitor and with the urine strips. Should I just leave it alone? Or should I really be worried?:confused:

Have you lost weight or changed your diet? Most of the time if I have ketones with normal sugars, it is because I've cut too far back on carbs or haven't been eating enough calories in general (and thus losing weight/burning ketones). Try eating something carb-filled and drinking lots of water and see if they start to go away. As long as you are getting enough insulin, you aren't likely to go into DKA, especially if your sugars are normal.
Good luck!

I agree, if you've ever talked to someone on the Atkins diet, they likely know what ketones are, as followers are encouraged to buy ketone strips to be sure the diet is working correctly

I had keto-acidosis when I was 12 and same thing: my BG reading was 130 but I was puking all night and found out i had ketones. I'm still confused too.
If your strip says you have ketones, then common sense says to flush them out: DRINK LOTS & LOTS of water. If you're starting to throw up, get to the ER. Luckily I didn't have to go to the ER and I had my family reminding me "Drink Water!" every 2 minutes....which is what you really have to do with Ketones.

Ketosis and Ketoacidosis are two different things.... your body will have ketones anytime you are burning fat for energy, and sometimes just if you're dehydrated. Generally it's not a huge concern if you're able to rehydrate on your own, and can eat (you need carbs + insulin to make ketones go away).
I normally have ketones when I'm sick or getting sick... I've only gone to the ER when I couldn't keep anything down (for example, any tummy bug that has me throwing up for more than 24 hours), more as a preventative measure (to get IV fluids). I've never been in DKA... every time I've gone to the ER for fluids my BG has been fine, but I feel horrible.
