We are about to purchase the Animas pump for our 5 year-old daughter. Has anyone heard any information about future product enhancements from Animas (or J&J since they bought Animas). Animas has been very tight-lipped about research and future directions, but I'm hoping someone can share unofficial information that they have learned. For example, we love the OmniPod features and wondered if Animas is designing a similar type product in the future. We like the integrated CGM device concept from Medtronic and wonder if Animas is working on something similar. I"m sure there are many more items in research and development.
Thank you!

Hi, my son doesn't have a pump yet but I am continuously searching for info on CGMS. I have been watching the Dexcom stock message board and some of the investors are under the impression that Johnson and Johnson is going to try to acquire Dexcom at some point. The last rumor I heard was that J&J was going to wait for the stocks to go down more before an offer is made, possibly after the next earning statement next week. Here is the link to the message board.. http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/mb/DXCM
This rumor could be due to some posters trying to "pump" (pun intended!) the stock but it really makes sense. J&J spent $ getting Animas, they have to stay in the game with a CGMS, in my opinion.
Anyway, Good luck!

I remember for a while, it was on the Animas, or Lifescan site (both possibly), they had something posted about developing technology, that they were working on something in a joint effort(this was a good couple years ago I saw this I believe). If memory serves me right, it was along the lines of the Omnipod, and the continuous blood glucose monitoring stuff - small pump attaches to skin, with bg sensor using intrered light (or something long those lines) to monitor glucose constantly, that was really nice and small. I haven't seen it in a good while, didn't bother looking until your post, so I dunno.

:) Thanks Jen Jen for the information. My 4 yo just started the Animas 1250 three weeks ago. Still trying to work towards that steady BG.
The new pump for Animas looks great. We will definately upgrade when it comes out. I like the idea of using the remote instead of taking his pump out of his pump pouch every time. For a 4 yo that doesn't want to stand still when I bolus, this will be great.
