Hair Loss

I have an 11 year old son. For about three weeks he's been irritable, easily emotional, complaining of not feeling well, complaining of headaches and he is losing a large amount of hair.

I've looked at several possabilities, not fungal. He had lab tests done this morning, fasting sugar.

Has anyone else had this symptom with diabetes?

Jeff's got all the good info, but I just wanted to add that our Laura had massive amounts of hair loss prior to any other symptoms.

I have heard of others who have had hair loss prior to diagnosis, but none that has ever been permanent.

Funny you say that....when my daughter went to the Childrens Hospital and was in the ER I noticed when she got off the rolling bed, there was tons of hair left behind. I have also noticed large balls of it in the bottom of our pool. I assumed it was mine but am beginning to think it was hers! I don't know if it has any correlation to the diabetes or not, but interesting to say the least.
