Well, at my DH's request after reading about arm pump sites, on Sat I finally agreed to try an arm site on T. Her thighs and bottom really do need a break however, since she's only 2-1/2 I really wasn't sure about the arms. She always did better with shots in her arms but they are so small!!!
The insertion went in very well--she really didn't squirm at all. My DH thinks it's because she could see what was going on. And the site is working very well even this morning.
Since the pump site went in so well, we decided to try the other arm for the CGMS--and that went in well, too! So, T is "double arming" it! My only concern is the size of the CGMS and the pump site in relation to the size of her arm. They really do take up a lot of space but she seems to be okay with it all so I guess I'm okay with it too!
So don't be afraid to try something new. And thanks for the advice on arm sites!

glad to hear both went well.. I'm going to try an arm site for the cgms too.. but her dr. said no way right now.. so I'll wait until we don't have any dr. appointments around LOL.. She does really really well with the pump site in her arm.. the cgms is a bigger needle and just bigger site all around with the transmitter attached, I"m afraid she won't have a lot of room.. I think definitely by this summer, with swimming and the beach, I think we'll definitely have to go to the arm..
glad all is working well.. if you get a chance, share some pics:)

We also are new to the arm and having great success. I will add that we had some advice given about how to remove the transmitter for charging on day 7 and it worked wonderfully. We were able to get 12 days and that has never happend before. We cut around the transmitter (we cover with tegaderm) and pulled it off and then just recovered.

we actually use a great big bandaid over the transmitter os that nothing sticks to it.. works well in getting it off so you can recharge it:)

Julia liked her arms for injections, too. When she needs a break from her tummy we use arms. She has a lot of muscle in her bum, and thighs. Those are the most painful for her, so I envy you being able to do that. We're lucky if we can get her to try a thigh, or bum, and we're even luckier if it stays in!!!

Adyson will not let us near her arms with a site. I keep telling her about all the kids here that use their arms, but she is not buying. Bribing doesn't work with her so...I guess we will have to sneak up on her :D or just wait until she is ready.

Aaron's the same. I've broached the subject a couple of times, and he just says, "Not for me."
I confess it seems to me you'd be in danger of yanking on the tubing every time you put on a coat or reached for something on a high shelf. But I keep hearing people saying that they like their site there.

If you are doing the site on the upper back side of the arm, it is usually covered by clothes(unless you are wearing a tank, or sleeveless top) and protected. We have that problem though with the thighs, and bum and pants going up and down. Julia just d/c when she changes her shirt and has an arm site, and then we help her thread it through so it goes inside the sleeve and into the shirt.
