We just moved to Oklahoma from Houston (which is were I started the pump at) We had education on keeping the pump cool. But it is 15F here today and is not supposed to get above 35F. So my question is... What temp does the pump stop? Can the insulin freeze? I do not have a endo here yet (thanks to Tricare) So no one I can call that knows about freezing temps. What should I do to keep the MM 722 warm? Please any help is good. :o

wear it inside your clothes, ie in a pocket or somewhere close to your body rather then outside on the belt for example.

We live in New England and see a lot of cold temps. My boys wear their pumps on pump packs around their waists and don't have any problems as everything is then underneath a winter coat.

We have more issues with the meters working properly (especially the meters that are linked to their pumps). THOSE we have to keep in a pocket close to the body.

Good luck!

we live in New England too.. currently its freezing out, with snow, freezing rain, sleet and ice.. Kaylee wears her pump like she normally would BUT we make sure its tucked in under her shirts and coat AND the tubing is tucked under.. the tubing would freeze first since there is hardly any in there.. it would freeze quickly! as long as its close to you, and not outside of your coat (except to bolus.. you should be perfectly fine to bolus or check your pump.. won't freeze THAT fast:) ) you should be fine..

A family friend who's had diabetes for 50 years recommended that we put Liv on the Minimed pump. He said it was the best thing that he's ever done. He lives in North Dakota...the state where 40 below zero with wind chill can and does happen. Heck, 15 degrees is downright warm there, in the winter!!:D He goes outside...he just keeps the pump and tubing right next to his body and wears sensible, warm clothing. Ahhh...now I am having a fit of nostalgia and find myself missing ND...LOL!

I don't think thats reasonable for them to expect you to NOT go outside when its cold like that.. it gets like that here.. Kaylee has ALWAYS gone outside, like I said before, we make sure its under her coat, sweatshirt, regular shirt and t-shirt.. and the tubing especially.. when Kaylee's pump malfunctioned last winter the moronic UPS man did not get my signature, didn't knock to let me know he was here, nothing.. just left it outside, I found it two hours later when I was wondering WHY it hadn't arrived yet, it had been sitting outside in probably 20degree weather for at least two hours.. I called mm, they said it was fine.. I had them replace it anyway.. becaue I'm quite sure it wasn't fine.. but thats two hours out in extreme cold with no coat or warm body..

I think it you take precautions to keep it close toyou and covered, especially the tubing, then you will be fine:)

15 degrees is FINE!!! How long are you planning on being outside? People ski outside all the time and just wear the pump under their coats. In fact, we had trouble sometimes in the cold temperature with the opposite -- the pump gets TOO warm under the clothes!! Come on, if you were going outside with no clothes on or something, there'd be a problem, but you're going to bundle up, I'm sure.
