I was just reading up on past posts about site infection and am wondering if anyone has ever been treated for cellulitis with BACTRIM? This is what the Drs put Mia on. It has been 24 hours and the site looks the same. Not worse. Not really better. It is still red and raised but remains small. No puss. No fever. And good BGs.
Anyone? I assume it is still too early to tell.

I think we used Amoxicillin (sp?). Our daughter had a hard lump in there for a few days. I would keep on eye on it until morning. If it is still hot to the touch and looks red, I would call the doctor. I think someone mentioned taking a Sharpie and drawing a circle around the spot to see the progress of healing.

Kaylee has had one confirmed site infection and one iffy one, we couldn't decide.. but she went on oral antibiotics both time.. we didn't put anything on it.. I put neosporin on her sites when we change.. I would call and ask for an oral antibiotic.. i just tell the pedi that the endo doesnt fool around with site infections and wants her on an oral antibiotic and he's all for that!

We were given both a triple antibiotic cream as well as an oral antibiotic- Bactrim. The oral dose is given 2x day for 7 days. The cream we put on twice a day- morning and night after a shower. Just wondering if anyone else has been given Bactrim before for cellulitis...
No ointment, but the site did puss and ooze after 3 antibiotic treatments and then the swelling and heat went away. It still looks bad, the skin is all pocked and dry around it, not infected, but a little scared, and we are at day 11.
My non d son had cellulitis, they put him on Augmentin (sp?) took about 2 days for us to see noticable results.
Hope Mia's clears up soon!

My son had a site infection several years ago. His got really bad really fast, so when we went to the doctor it was already very red and full of puss. The doctor drained it, gave him an antibiotic shot and bactrim. The doctor told me not to put any ointment on it b/c the moisture makes the bactiria continue to grow. I'm sure every doctor has different oppinions on ointment, but that's what my said. It took several days for it to start to look better. You will know it is starting to heal when the skin around it starts to dry up and peel. If you aren't comfortable with the way it is looking then don't hesitate to take him back in. Unfortuantely my son can't seem to leave his mosquito bites alone and as a result we have delt with a lot of staph infections. Last year we were actually in the hospital as a result of staph. So, you can never be to careful!

Emma was given Bactrum for possible cellulitis, (she didn't really have an infection, she had a small sore on her foot and was having an arthritis flare at the same time so her foot was red and swollen). So I don't know how well it will actually work, but it is prescribed for cellulitis.
Just FYI, we had to stop the medicine because of severe lows. Emma started having crazy drops of hundreds of point in minutes. She would spike after eating and then be 35. It was crazy. So be really cautious on Bactrum (it's an issue with sulfa)! I was told this is a rare problem, but a few other kids around here have had the same issue.
I hope she recovers quickly!:cwds:

Ohhh thanks Amy! Thankfully, we havent seen any bad lows since she started...but we did have a couple of spikes into the high 200s and 300s right after eating!! I will keep a close eye on her.
The sore looks smaller but still red. I assume it will take several days to completely clear up. Thanks everyone.
