I just read about this Pelican Sun glucometer on the CWD question and answer site today. I had never heard of this -- it pricks you finger with an electronic device and no needle. Does anyone know about this:

I just read more -- it looks like there are lancets, but the device is electronic and super precise and supposed to improve "finger" health, minimize brusing and scarring and callousing of the fingers.

jesse participated in a study for this at the FFL conference this past summer.
He loves it, but only uses it in the house. Its kind of big to carry around in his pocket

My 11 year-old son was diagnosed in December and is very needle-phobic.
Yes, it costs $200.00. A hundred lancets cost about 15 bucks. I got ours from their website. It probably isn't necessary for most people, but if you hate needles or if you have a young child who is afraid, it is worth every penney.

My endo got a sample of the Pelikan for us to try in his office, and we loved it! Unfortunately, although our insurance company will cover it, they will only do so if we buy it through one of their suppliers, and right now, the company is not distributing it to any suppliers. So I guess we just have to wait and see!

I emailed the company and got this response about combining the lancet with a glucometer.
"In fact, development of the first truly-integrated glucose meter offering one-step testing based upon the Pelikan electronic lancing algorithm is underway. This is our company mission and vision and we also look forward to the day this product is available!"
As you can see there is no timetable, but something to keep an eye on. Then possibly it would be covered by insurance also.
