And i'm not really sure what I should be doing when it comes to her D. Her numbers have been actually pretty good all day, BUT she hasn't really been eating. she has a fever of 101.6, and she's already had Tylonal s/p? So i was wondering if she can Ketons even tho her sugars have been good? she's not peeing a whole lot, so i'm waiting on her cotton to check for them. what do i do with insulin if she's not eating? I wonder if i should give her NPH tomorrow if she still isnt up to eating food? what do i do?

If I were you I would call your endo if she's not eating. Poor little baby! I'm no help here she's just so young, sickness and D not a good combo.

I would also talk to the endo or pedi about alternating her dose with Tylenol and Advil every two hours to help with the fever and aches and pain of the bug. If she is feeling better, maybe she'll eat?

Push the fluids (high carb like fruit juice). Check for ketones frequently. The one time we ended up in the ER was because Griffin was sick and wouldn't eat. Definitely call your endo.

Like everyone else said, call your endo.. check for ketones as soon as you can.. Is she normally on NPH? I would definitely call because if she's not eating you'll have problems with lows.. like someone else said keep up with the sugar drinks, fruit juice, gadorade, pedialyte, popsicles, make it fun.. sugar jell-o... things like that..
call your regular pedi about the fever, we use to alternate tylenol and motrin, but K's endo said no motrin for her.. so now we stick with just tylenol..
I hope she's feeling better soon!!

You've had a rough week!:(
NPH + sick/not eating= big trouble. This is one of the primary reasons we took Emma off NPH right away, we could never make her eat at the exact time the NPH peaked and she was always having lows. With an illness where they don't want to eat or drink you have very few options with NPH. Hopefully your endo can help guide you through these adjustments.
Two important things to remember during illness.
1. You can never stop giving insulin to a person with type 1. Even with normal-low blood sugars your body requires insulin to prevent DKA.
Kids who stop eating/drinking will be difficult to manage, but there always has to be a balance of carbs and insulin.
2. Always check ketones when ill, no matter what the blood sugar is. Ketones can be dangerously high, even with normal BG numbers.
Hang in there~ hopefully she'll keep drinking for you and all will be fine!:cwds:
