...it was bound to happen sooner or later, despite our best efforts to properly clean and sterilize... Thanks to prior posts about site infections, I knew better and took Mia immediately to the walk-in clinic down the street, which I LOOOOVE and the two Dr's commended me for bringing her in so promptly and not letting the infection get out of control! Thanks, folks!!! She is now on a prescription ointment and oral antibiotics (7 days, Bactrim).
By the way, one of the Dr's (he is VERY up to date with diabetes treatments and other break-through studies) recommended to leave the alcohol wipe ON Mia's skin for 1 minute prior to inserting the new site. Might be worth a try...

Ooh...sorry about that. We just use IV Prep for our sites. Hmmm. I'm glad you caught it early!

Oh sorry to hear that! So glad you found a doc that understand D.
Trey has a terrible looking bruise on his rear from the last site. I hate that!
I am glad that our site infection can be prosperous for your site infection :D!
We blame ours on leaving it in to long. Anytime we leave it in a day over 2, we get a little redness and sting, so this was in a full 3 days and voila!

I am so sorry Marisa for the infected site, but I'm glad you had it under control so fast - good job:)

Sorry about the infected site.:cwds:
Our dermatologist recommended povidone (betadine). He said very few people are allergic to it and it is great for preventing infection. It makes sense because that is what they have used to cleanse an area prior to cutting for outpatient surgery.

We always go 3 days and never had a problem. :(

Hmm may be a worth a try! Where do I get Betadine? Is this something I can buy in a regular Pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens)?
Thanks!!

You can get it any of those places. I also get povidone swabs (povidone soaked extra large Q-tips, basically). It leaves an orangey look to the skin where applied...but once it's dry I have not noticed any issue with clothing and we've used it since April/May. Liv likes it; I thought she'd balk at the color...but the dermatologist was right...that she'd get used to the color.

My daughter has VERY SENSATIVE skin and a possible Iodine allergy, so no Betadine...the pump ed said it was due to the amount of liquid and her bodies reaction.
