I've had my pump since July. Back then, my insurance told me it was covered. Yesterday, I got a letter saying they had new information, and it's no longer covered. So I owe the full cost of the pump. Which I cannot afford. Can they decide to up and do that to me? Will Minimed take a 6 month old pump back? Also, I was far from with holding information. I answer all of the forms honestly.

Wow, usually the pump company verifies with your insurance that it's covered before they will even send it to you. Did Minimed send you the letter or your insurance?

I would get on the phone with both of them Monday morning and get to the bottom of this!

What a crappy Christmas "present" I'm very sorry you have to deal with this.

This seems so unusual! I started pumping with the MM 522 in June. Prior to that Medicare turned me down because of certain blood test results. Minimed was not going to send me a pump until my secondary insurance company agreed to cover the entire expense. If the secondary company had disapproved I would not be pumping now. It is much too expensive for my income. I do not think you should have to pay for the pump under the circumstances. Do you have the insurance company's initial promise in writing? If so, I would get a lawyer immediately and have him/her look into the matter for you. Good luck.

I'd say if they told you it was covered - they can't go back on that.

Minimed did all the verifying in the beginning, assuring me that it was covered. Then they shipped it out, I ever got the letter from insurance verifying that they paid. I guess the Medical Director "audited" my doctor for info or something, and decided it shouldn't have been covered. So I got the letter from insurance telling me it isn't covered, and that I should "rethink this service" or something. Uhm, little late for that. I guess I need to call MM Monday. I hate how you always get those letters on a Friday.

Unfortunately, I don't have any documentation saying the pump was covered. Minimed handled it all. I imagine Minimed would have it though.

I have the letter saying the Minilink was covered.
