Hi all, Julie will be getting the pump in a few weeks and the only thing she is really worried about is how to sleep with it. So I was hoping for some ideas on how everyone's children handle it. Where do they put the pump? Thanks for any help.

When my son first started on the pump we purchased a sleep-T with a pocket in it and a soft waist pack with thick soft elastic and velcro closure. He preferred the waist pack. Now he uses pajama pants with pockets. There are lots of companies that sell insulin pump accessory products. Some are listed on the CWD website here

Hey, I just started on the pump this week and while I thought it was going to be a big issue because I am very particular about my sleeping habits - it really isn't.
I sleep on my side so I clip the pump to the front of my pj pants on the inside so it doesn't fall off or anything. And it works just fine!
Anyways, I hope she likes it!

Even though I don't have an insulin pump, I have a similar pump that delivers medicine into me to reduce spasticity in my legs.
I use pajama bottoms that have pockets in them. This holds my pump and the excess tubing just fine. Also, several pump companies make belts that you can wear that have a pocket for a pump. Hope this helps you out.

I just sleep with my pump loose in bed-after all-it's attached to me-it is not going anywere! I find that it is the most comfortable way to wear it. If you are worried about the infusion site coming out-I only had that happen about twice-in two years. (Both of those times it was ready to be changed and not quite sticky enough anyway.) Try it! You may like it!:)

This nice lady will sew a "pump pouch" that your child can wear around their waist during the day and at night. Our baby girl loves hers!
I usually just let mine lie in bed next to me.

my daughter has had her pump for 7 years. she likes the longer tubing so she can just tuck her pump under her pillow at night.

My daughter wears her pump in a pump pouch that's attached to a belt. She hasn't had any problems sleeping with it. You can find them at Pumpwearinc.com or fifty50pharmacy.com, there is also a lady that makes and sells them on ebay. Hope this helps.

Taylor has only been pumping for a week. She's chosen to wear a pyjama shirt with top pockets. She runs the tubing up her belly and out through the button ups to the pocket. It hasn't fallen out of her pocket so far (touch wood :D ) We've also ordered a night pack with a soft cotton belt that she can wear around her waist.

William is almost 4 and he wears his undershirt to bed (same one he wears in the day) that has a pocket on the back where the pump stays all the time. Obviously we do all his pump button pushing so this wouldn't work for an older kid!
I've read that some folks will buy a pack of baby socks (or kid socks) and use a safety pin to pin the sock to their pj's (or nightgown, etc) and slip the pump into the sock - which is soft next to the skin. I wore a pump (with saline) when shopping around for William's and this is what I did. If I had tried to leave it out in the bed I can imagine myself entwined in tubing - LOL!

I wanted to revive this thread about how to wear the pump at night. We are finding that Mia moves around quite a bit at night and the pump pouch rotates around her waist and the tubing of course with it. Although this doesn't seem to bother her, I would prefer the pump to stay put in one place instead of the tubing being tighly wrapped around her waist. It horrifies me to think she could pull it out one night without me knowing.
I have seen people saying you can take a baby sock and pin it to the pyjama but I have not seen this suggested for kids. Is this safe for us to try? Would you be concerned with having a safety pin attached to your child's clothing at night?
Any other night suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Try using a diaper pin. It has the plastic protective cover on top and doesn't pop open as easily as a reqular pin.

Ben sleeps with his pump pak on and now lately we've started using the tubeguard which is great.
No more stray tubing and the pump paks are not at all constricting.
He has never had a problem.
We do however have to ALWAYS block the pump and hide it under his pj bottoms so that he doesn't get at it when he wakes up and bolus himself!!!!!!!!!

I use 2 diaper pins to attach a baby sock to my daughters pjs. I pin the top back side of the sock to the pjs. This way I can get to the pump if I need to. I pin the botton of the sock so it doesn't move around. The key is to have a sock that is small enough it holds the pump snug. If the sock is too big the pump falls out.
