We are currently using the Ascensia Contour. We have heard a lot about the Accu-Chek being less invasive and painful. With Devin being 2 we are all about less invasive. We have the option to switch to either the Accu-Chek Aviva with the Multiclix or the Accu-CHek Compact Plus with the softclix.
Does anyone have any experience with these monitors? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I was given the Accu Check Aviva was Emily was diagnosed in the hospital. I hated it. I hated the fact you had to have a code chip to match each bottle of test strips. This made it hard for school. I received a lot of errors with the test strips due to the amount of blood it required. I did like the lancet device. I am now using the Freestlye Lite and IMO it is much better. It does not require near the amount of blood and a very rarely have an error. I have read were a lot of people like this meter but I did not have any luck with it

its not the meter that is least invasive and less painful, its the lancer. You can use any lancing device you want with any meter. The accu-chek one is just about the nicest lancing devices you can get. You can keep using your same meter if you like that one - just call Accu-check and ask them to send you a pokey. We also like the BD one.
We use freestyle meters.
We have both of those, but use the accucheck compact meter, with the lancer from the aviva. The latter is much less painful according to my kid:) We like the compact accucheck, because if you wanted to use the lancer that comes with it, it is all one piece and you can do a bg check with one hand basically. Handy if you are out somewhere with no surface to put things down on.

Kelton and I both use the Precision Xtra meter and use the Accu-Chek multiclix lancing devise..The other pokers that came with the Precision are mean and hurt

We got the aviva at our jdrf walk a few months back..
Jessi likes using it because it is the "kids version" so the case is neon orange, green, etc.. and meter itself is purple and have a "skin" to go over it to make it girlish.
She does love the multi-clix.. If he ever uses a different meter, she will still use the multi-clix lancer

I recommend one of those two for a couple of reasons. You can add blood for up to a minute which is very helpful since we don't always get a good drop of blood. It also has a light that lights up the test strip that helps us with night time checks. I have tried every meter out there literally.

I haven't used either of those meters but Kaylee uses the mulitclix lancet device and has no complaints about it... my FIL uses the compact plus... we use the freestyle lite and the precision xtra..

Yup, what Michelle said. It's the lancing device that causes pain and you can use any lancing device with any meter.
We also use the Ascencia Contour (because of the coding mostly!) and use the Multi-Clix with it. We love them both. We also tried the Aviva meter way back when Lia was first diagnosed. Didn't care for it. We've also use the Ultra Smart and it's variations and didn't care for it either. We always always get a ton of errors and wasted strips with that one.
I keep meaning to call and see if I can get the new Freestyle that doesn't need coding. Does that have a back light? I would *love* that.

As others have stated, it is the lancer that is going to hurt. I have used everything that has come out in the last 17 years. I have found for me the multiclix is less painful, than most of the others. I use my multiclix with what ever meter I have strips for, so I have used it with my Ultra 2, the BD meter that came with my pump, the Contour that I have also.
If you call Accu-chek they will send you out a free multi-clix, there was a thread a few days ago with the number for that .
Also for the one that wanted to try the new Freestyle Lite, there is a link on the Dlife site that lets you request one of those for free also.
I got mine yesterday from UPS.

I absolutely LOVE the lite.. its the best meter.. yes, it has a backlight, and a nice bright white backlight, as well as a light that lights up the strip for nightime checks.. the light is brightenough for me to see my way into her dark room, find a finger and check her.. but not bright enough to wake her.. plus they have cool covers for it at a cheap price at wally's.. ;)
just call your endo and see if they have one for you..
