Hi, I was wondering if you could help me?

I was just wondering what some of the challenges teens have with following a diabetes diet. I don't have diabetes myself, but have a friend who does, and just want to understand a bit more about it so that I can be of help to him.

I was wondering if someone might be able share with me some of the positive and negative consequences about following a diabetes diet?

Thank you

James

There is no "diabetes diet" per se, at least there need not be. Everyone, including people with diabetes, should eat a healthy diet.

The big difference is that people with diabetes need to know how many carbohydrates they eat, so they can match the carbs with the correct amount of insulin.

He is very right. A lot of people think that all diabetics have to follow a rigid diet, when really, most of the time they don't.

It's hard sometimes to remember to cover your carbs. If you don't, you end up with a big high sugar later. Is your friend type 1 or 2? Also, what kind of treatment is he on (pills, shots, pump...)? That would probably allow us to more fully answer your question.
