Does anyone else seem to end up doing a middle of the night site change about once every week or two like us?
It usually starts out with us putting Tessa to bed at what we call a good number (we like her between 120--180 at night). Then, sometimes when I check around midnight or 1am it has creeped up a bit. Not enough to make me change the site right then, but maybe around 200 or so. I'll give a correction (usually 1/3 to 1/2 of what pump says to give), and go back to bed. Then, recheck her around 2-3am, and she's even higher--could be anywhere from 250--low 300's, but makes me know that she's not getting insulin. Arghhh, then I'll give an injection to correct and change her site, and go back to bed. If I'm lucky, will get back to sleep a bit before time to get up.
Any tips or things I could do differently? We used her upper buttocks exclusively for sites for the first year and 1/2 she pumped. Then switched to her tummy due to rising numbers all of the time. At first we got great numbers, but seem to be making many more site changes when sites are on her tummy. Last night I put one in her buttocks again after a 2 month break. Plan to rotate between tummy and buttocks for now.
Oh yeah, when you do a site change like that, do you put in a whole new cartridge of insulin and tubing, or just change the site and reconnect after priming a drop or two? I've done both, depending on how old the cartridge is. We normally change her sites every 48 hours even when everything is fine.

I tend to give a correction by pump first, see what happens, just like you. Then in 2 hours if it has gone up I give a shot correction. Then I just do that every two hours until we get up. I tend to wake a lot at night anyway, so it doesn't bother me. I should say, thought, that it doesn't happen that often. I find sometimes it is an air bubble as by morning all is running fine. Night time basals are lower for us than daytime so it can take quite a while to get one gone.

Oh, one more thing...we emla and I don't want to wait for that. Honestly, he probably wouldn't realize I was doing anything, he sleeps pretty heavy, but I don't want to go through scarying him. :) And getting him situated to do the change wouldn't be so easy either.
