Has anyone started their kid on omega 3's?? I know there is a study about them out of Barbara Davis in relation to the trial net study. I spoke with dd's ENT about them and she highly recommends them.
Just got an e-mail from endo's nurse in response to starting Sam and she said to check with endo first. Our apt isn't until Jan.

I don't want to start him until I get the go ahead from his endo, but wondering what other endos were recommending.

I will be watching this thread with interest. I would like to start the girls on an omega 3 supplement but when I went to buy some I had no clue what to get??? I plan on calling the endo today about this.

this is the website my dd's ENT dr gave us. She said to go with the dosing and brand recommended here. I'm going to e-mail the endo and I'll post his reply when I get it.

We do the oil by Carlson - the same one recommended on the Dr. Linday site: http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid=1260

I get it at Whole Foods. Nice to know you can get it online too.

I get the lemon flavored - I was suprrised that it really doesn't taste too fishy. I've been doing about a 1/2 T for my son ... so close to what they recommend for dosing. Our endo thinks it is great. It also has Vitamin D, which my guy was low on for awhile (another possible trigger for the D.).

Now I just have to remember to give it to him ... we were really good for about a year but I've lost it as part of our routine. Thanks for the reminder!

Rachel,
does it affect the insulin one way or the other? Headed to whole foods right now!

Not that I have noticed. Given that it has been a couple weeks since we used it, I'll bring it back into our routine and see if it changes anything. I'll let you know - but I think it is more for overall health, not bg control.

Make sure you get the lemon flavored!!

here's the response from our endo---

It certainly is safe to do, and a number of patients do take them. There should be a positive effect on lipids, though I do not think Sam really has a problem with that now. I am not sure of the benefit with regard to his diabetes, but, again, it is certainly safe.

What is the purpose of taking this? Is it suppose to help regulate blood sugars?
