Hi:)

I am new to this forum so I hope I am posing my comment/question in the right category.

I found you on the Internet as I was looking for some new innovations within electronic devices used to establish compliant behaviors when it comes to remember taking asthmatic medicine.

The therapeutic field of diabetes has come up with some quite interesting innovations such as Glucoboy that help measure blood glucose and can be used with Nintendo as I far as I know.
I think such an innovation is very interesting as it reconciles fun/leisure with an important health challenge.

However, have any of you heard about radically new electronic devices (software or hardware) used to establish compliant behaviors within the therapeutic area of asthmatic children?

I ask, as I am currently a student about to do a research project on recent innovations within medical compliance devices with a special focus on asthma.

I especially find the possibility of merging software games and mobile phones intriguing as I see a need to be on the forefront with children’s behavior and recognize that they to an increasing extent use their mobile phones (which many children today possess) as a toy. Why not see these as toys that can help them and their parents to ensure compliant behavior?

I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me with some clues as to where to look or if you know of any recent innovative attempts within medical compliance devices for asthmatic children.

And I also hope that it is okay that I pose my question here even though it is not as much about diabetes. Although, I think it is important that different therapeutic areas communicate in order to benefit from each others knowledge and perhaps together come up with new innovative solutions.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to contact us to discuss the technology and designs in place for both diabetes and asthma management in South Texas. We do a lot with wireless devices including the GlucoMON, GlucoMESSENGER, Spirometry, Peak Flow Meters, Wireless Orbs for Weather/Pollen indicators, real-time alerts, etc... and they all work across your existing cell phones - just simple design. This system is also used to screen and monitor islet cell transplant patients.

Regarding GlucoPhone, does anyone know how much blood those test strips require? There are several similar approaches to the wireless glucose and asthma monitoring technology - all of them have their own pros and cons. At the end of the day however, it needs to be simple no matter what you decide to go with.

If you want to talk to me about what's available and the pros and cons of each you can call me or email me (diabetes & asthma related) since we support kids and their families in both areas.
