I will be attempting our 1st since dx Sat I hope. (I know terrible mom) I am going to try and do this as long as he lets me get away w/ it. I would like to get things sorted before the holidays. I am doing this on my own, endo suggested it early on when we 1st started on Levimer. I just hav'nt had the guts till now.
NO CARBS and NO FATS right. Any ideas appreciated!

Grilled chicken breast, lunch meat, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, ham and cheese omlet, popsicles made from crystal light, sugar free koolaid, grilled salmon, frozen coolwhip (Hailey ate this like ice cream when she was first dx), small amounts of string cheese some of these have some fat but not alot just be careful on how much you are giving.

Just remember to check for ketones after a while. Someone pointed out in the basal test thread I started on Friday that you shouldn't do this in 24 hours but it seamed to work for us. I will see if I get chewed out by our endo tomorow when they call :o

Protein will cause a bg spike, so be careful not to do too much of it. You are better off going with no calorie foods and drinks to get a really clear picture.

Actually I don't think you can give food during a basal test. I think even giving carb free foods will mess it up. You could try breaking it up into smaller sections though. Say do the early morning basal before breakfast and have it only cover 3 hours for example since you can have several basals cover one day. This is just from what I remember in the back of my head. You might want to google basal testing but every time I do it says not to eat.

I'm just curious what made you decide to do a basil test now? The Endo didn't ask you to do one right? Just curious...:cwds:

No he did not ask us to do this. I just want to get his #'s in better control. Not that it has been to bad of a A1C. We're having trouble w/ highs after b/f @ school. I figured better basals better #'s. Hopefully!

Our Endo told us we could use food like turkey, some protein, lowfat NO CARB items. This is my first basal testing in just over a year of being dx'd. We were on NPH for 6 months, we changed DR's to get off of that. We were on Levemir/Novalog #'s ran really well. Since the pump in JUNE we have o.k. #'s. I'm just trying this hopeful for better #'s
This endo that we see pretty much lets his patients do what they want. Which can be or good or bad thing.
