I have NEVER had this problem before so I was going to come here..Let me start by saying none of my kids eat very much..I called Davis's nutrionist and asked if there was something we could give him to make him hungry..She suggested Periactin..(but I hadn't gotten it filled for him..yet)..So I had to take the twins in for their 18 months checkup and they are still little for their age..So their dr prescribed them periactin to make them hungry..My question is have any of ya'll ever had to use this or another appetite stimulant..I have never had a problem being hungry so this is new to me..My husband thinks they are a prime example that hospital mixups do occur;)Because our kids shouldn't be having to have something to MAKE them hungry..

Are they malnourished or just small? If just small, why worry and give them drugs to promote unhealthy eating. My pedi once said that a toddler won't let himself starve, they just eat until they are full.

I guess the problem is they don't eat...(the twins)..They will eat breakfast, sometimes, and then that's all they eat the rest of the day..At their last checkup we started giving them carnation instant breakfast, so they get that in the mornings with breakfast..They are 18 months old and weigh what an average 9-10 month old weighs..This is really the last resort, if they don't gain weight in 3 months he said he is going to run some tests just to make sure everything is ok..

So it does sound like they are malnourished? Is that what the problem is? If they are not eating, then they are not getting the essentials, right?

Do they eat when they are getting ready to grow?

This is a sensitive subject at our house too. I have a teeny tiny daughter (non D), who is eight but is about the size of a small 6 year old, she weighs next to nothing. She also has a very fast metabolism and is very hyper, so any calories she does eat doesn't stay long. Our NP is constantly concerned about her.

Now obesity runs in my family on both sides, I have aunts and uncles and cousins that are extremely obese. My mom has a sister that was a lot like my dd, very small and petite. Her dad started paying her to eat and drink milk. When she was a teenager she blossomed, and kept blooming and yes, now she is obese.

Back to our NP, she is constantly trying to get me to give dd first one thing and then another. But I am extremely leery about messing up their bodies. If she is eating (which she is-just not very much) and she stays healthy (which she does) then obviously that is how her body works. She may be a late bloomer, or she may always be just tiny and petite. But I just can't give her something that will force her to eat, and may possibly cause future problems.

This may all be TMI, and nothing at all what you wanted. But this is what is going on in my house, and my honest opinion about it.

I do hope this helps.
