Things have to get better

Hi, my name is Kate and im a 15yr old soon to be 16 from Australia. In octobre i will have had diabetes for a decade. im on a pump and have been for about 4 years. BUT in the last 6 months my readings have gone really strange, most extreme example in 4 hours from 23 with trace of ketones into a coma. i really do not know what is happening or why. Its knocked me around a fair bit, is it a failure to have to see a psychologist? my social and academic lives have suffered. look if anyone has any ideas/suggestions or is just willing to talk please write to me at storm_cloud_261@hotmail.com also is it normal to feel isolated?

It is normal to feel like you're in it alone, but you're not! Especially now that you've found this forum! There are a lot of great people here who would love to talk to you, including me! I'm not a dr, so I don't know for sure what is going on with your bg's. It is definitly not failure to see a psychologist, a lot of people need extra help coping a time or two. I see a social worker as part of a clinic I go to every three months. It helps a lot! Always remember that you are not in it alone, even though it may seem that way at times. Keep in touch!

Hello Kate,
I'm pretty new to this but I wanted to respond to your post so you know that you are not alone. I think it is great that you have found this forum and hopefully you will meet a lot of people you can bounce ideas off of.
I only have about 7 weeks of experiece with diabetes, and my experience is with my 4-year old daughter, but I have heard that teenage hormones can do some pretty crazy things with your readings. If you do not get a lot of responses in this section try posting something in the "Parents" section. There are a lot of parents of teenagers in that section that probably would have better advice than me. They have been doing this a lot longer than I have.
I'm not a teen, I'm a Mom, but if you ever need someone to bounce an idea off of please let me know - I'd be happy to at least listen and hopefully help you find the direction you are looking for.
Good luck and keep up the great work!

I dont think its a failure at all to see a pyschiatrist ~ I saw one for a couple months. Its good to have someone to talk to and if you feel isolated, a pyschiatrist could really help. Be sure that the doctor knows and understands about diabetes though...

Hi Kate, You are at an age where your hormones are out of wack. You need to speek with your endo. Our trainer told us that she needed twice the insulin at your age due to the hormone issue, so call your doctor and make some changes. You are not alone. I know it feels like it. I've heard it from my son. Depression is common when you are dealing with all of the glitches. Hang tough Kate and post often. We are all here for you!
God Bless! Tami
