View Full Version : E coli - say it aint so!
Yep, we served our boys a Totino's pepperoni pizza b/4 trick/treating on Halloween. I know, hot dogs, McDonalds, Totino's, how could we feed our loved ones these things. Anyway, running in and out and thought this would be easiest on busy night. You guessed it, our box matched perfectly the lot numbers in the recall due to E coli suspicions in the pepperoni. Now the waiting game to see if any of us will develop symptoms (usually about 7 days it says). Sounds horrific, especially possibility of complete renal failure, and it's usually worse in children and the very old. We'll be racing to the hospital if my 5 y/o D son gets hit with this. I'm worried about the havoc it could reap on his D.

According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the USDA, the recall follows a multi-state outbreak in which 21 illnesses were reported in 10 states: Illinois (1), Kentucky (3), Missouri (2), New York (2), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (1), South Dakota (1), Tennessee (8), Virginia (1), and Wisconsin (1). Half of the individuals who became ill were hospitalized as a result. The onset of symptoms ranged between July 20 and Oct. 10. No deaths have been reported and various state and federal health agencies are continuing to investigate.
The frozen pizzas were produced in the company’s Wellston, Ohio, plant and sold nationwide. General Mills said the pepperoni came from a supplier. Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 7750" inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as a "best if used by" date on or before "02 APR 08 WS." The following products are subject to the recall:
10.2-ounce packages of "Totino's The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza Pepperoni."
10.2-ounce packages of "Totino's The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Classic Pepperoni."
10.2-ounce packages of "Totino's The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Pepperoni Trio."
10.7-ounce packages of "Totino's The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Combination Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza."
10.5-ounce packages of "Totino's The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Three Meat Sausage, Canadian Style Bacon & Pepperoni Pizza."
10.9-ounce packages of "Totino's The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Supreme Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza with Green Peppers & Onions."
6.8-ounce packages of "Jeno's Crisp 'n Tasty Pizza, Pepperoni."
7.0-ounce packages of "Jeno's Crisp 'n Tasty Pizza, Combination Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza."
7.2-ounce packages of "Jeno's Crisp 'n Tasty Pizza, Supreme Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza with Green Peppers and Onions."

Oh My, that sounds terrifying ! Is there nothing you can do or take to possibly head it off? No antibiotics or something of the sort? I know I would be calling my doc ASAP...it is worth asking anyhow?
Best wishes for no reactions

I hope everyone is ok and you can dodge that bullet.... I almost made one for my son for dinner on Holloween too but decided chicken and mashed tatoes were a better guess for that night....
I just threw out all the totinos in my deep freeze.... 6 of them had the 7750 and one didnt but I figured I might as well throw them all out.... I dont want to take any chances....
I hope everyone is doing well keep us posted
Nothing to do but wait, and hope your immune system is strong enough to fight it off it appears, as it's an infection. The recall was just announced Thursday - they're off the shelves locally but if you have them in your freezer (as ours were), you just hope you catch it in time and check the lot numbers. Sounds like they've been consumed for awhile and only a few reported illnesses, but I'm sure more will come forward now that they know the cause...especially if they've had a Totino's or Jeno's pizza lately.

Didya cook the pizza? Heat kills e coli.
Enough heat to get the pizza sizzling, you'll be fine.

Oh that is awful Keep us posted. My nephew had E coli along with Spinal Meningitis after birth because the stupid doctor did not want to do a C-Section and fractured his skull in two places. Not only that they had placed an internal monitor in his scalp and didn't clean him up after they spent two hours using vacuum to bring him through the birth canal. He pooped as he was coming through so the poop got into the cut in his scalp. He was in ICU for 6 months. Oh I will certain pray that no one comes down with it. It is an awful disease. I can certainly testify to that. I would not wish it on anyone especially a young child. I will keep your family in my prayers. Please lets us know how everything turns out. If your children start having stomach cramps and diarrhea get them to the doctor pronto.

I'll be hoping for you too. Going to be a tense few days I guess. And... I don't know if it would do any good, but I think I'd be pushing the probiotic yogurt. Get enough good bacteria in there, there may be less room for the bad guys. And if not, well it still couldn't hurt?

We NEVER eat frozen pizza and yet, a little over a week ago hubby bought this brand - we ate 3 and have 3 in the freezer. Should I chuck them or hang on to them for some kind of future confirmation?
Hubby had the runs today.....say a prayer for our family.
