Dean was quoted on the front page of Ohio State's The Lantern college newspaper. Nothing like reading about your kid partying. He does like to go for the "shock value" in whatever he does. That's me starting out the article - I knew nothing of this article - Dean said they called him to interview him as well as others.
I'm sorry as of 5PM The Latern Web site wants you to register in order to read the article.

Yay! Finally an article that differentiates between type 1 and 2! I was thinking it would be perfect till I got to these 2 sentences:

"This form can be treated with frequent blood sugar testing and insulin injections or 24-hour pumps, which monitor sugar levels and deliver insulin as needed. Type 2 is the result of lessened insulin sensitivity and secretion. Heredity, obesity, age, hypertension and ethnicity are believed to be risk factors."

Hypertension may go along with type 2, but isn't a risk factor for type 2 as far as I know, and I hate how they make pumps sound closed-looped.

Still, very cool the college paper did an article on this.

The article I agree was not perfection - that first sentence you quoted was way confusing not connecting the testing to monitoring and injections/pump to delivering within the sentence structure.

But hey, it's a college paper! And they did better than most mainstream media so kudos.

For a college newspaper I think this was very well written...Better than other articles I have read in newspapers and magazines. Most of the facts were accurate. I wish my son's college would publish this type of article...right now he doesn't know of any other Type 1's at school although I am sure that there are some.

How did they find out about your son?

When I party, I have to be careful that I do not go low. Too low equals diabetic coma - something I kind of try to avoid."

Now that's my kind of kid!!! At least until my own goes to college and says the same thing  To funny!

I asked Dean today how they found him. He said through facebook.com and he had joined a Type 1/Ohio State group. Dean said to have your son "friend" him on facebook and he can join that Type 1 group. I guess the group is quiet - nothing really happens with it and I don't think it's just OSU. Dean loves Appalachian State by the way!! :D

Laurie,

I will suggest my son facebook Dean...not sure it will happen though. :) Sorta sounds like I am trying to set up a playdate. ( at least he might see it that way)

I'm sure Dean does like App State since they beat OSU 's rival, Michigan!!

Ironically, Chris loves OSU.... we lived in Columbus twice and he was born there so he has always loved their team...especially this year since they are doing so well!
