OMG so I gave in to the girls having a caramel candy apple sprinkles with this afternoon. It came as a 3-package and was labeled at 21gr. Entered it as 25gr to be safe for obvious reasons. Guess what: Mia went from 170 to 340 WITH a 20-minute prebolus!! Corrected as per pump and 1.5 hrs later she is 117!!!!! Holy macro, now what!! We will see if I got it anywhere near right in about 10 min LOL (added 15 free carbs to her dinner!)...
This must have been our biggest spike from a single food yet!!

lol sounds like Phoenix. He had a caramel apple a few months back (first one since dx'ed and he was in the 300-400 range for a while). I now make sure we pass those at the grocery store.....
Sounds like you got it figured out tho... Good job :D

I so hope she enjoyed that apple tho.. Its a shame that they cannot have these kinds of foods w/o the spike. I say let em have it every once in a while. :o

I would wonder if the carb count was right?? That just sounds low to me, but then again, I'm not the best at estimating;)

Is it possible her finger had some sugar on it? That seems like something I would do.

I had this problem with Trevor tonight! I thought I was going crazy. He didn't even eat the whole thing, he just ate the nuts off the apple. He was at 359, then 15 min. later he was 371, then 15 min. later, he was 383! I gave him 2 units of novolog, he slowly came down. Then, 3 hours later, he was back up again. He got up to 457! I gave him another 2 units. I will be keeping a VERY close eye on him tonight.
I looked at the carmel apple package again, and the serving size is 1/2 of an apple. 21crbs in 1/2! Who eats 1/2 of an apple?!

Well, I tossed that last apple LOL. Hmm maybe it was 1/2 serving size I wonder?? Mia did enjoy it :)but then felt crummy after she spiked :( and then she felt low at 117 because she came down sooooo fast (hence I am thinking it was a spike not an underbolus - she dropped 220+ points in 90min).... I gave her 10 extra carbs for dinner but knew I needed more before bedtime but she was full so I didn't want to push it, so I decided to recheck at the 2.5 hr mark and give her some extra a little later, so she could digest first. She was exactly 117 again LOL. She needs to be at least 180 at that mark to be safe but I knew she needed more tonight, so I gave her 3 glucosetabs (12 carbs = 90 points) because she was coming down so quick and sure enough it worked: She was 170 at bedtime (150 is target) with some IOB still active at 8pm. 10pm check was 126, 1am check 101 (juiced her back up a bit).
Whew, that's over with.
