I'm worried about everyone in Southern California with the fires. Is everyone okay?

Well we are around 20-25 miles to the closest fire but they are all around us. There is smoke and ash everywhere. We had to keep the kids in during recess at work today because it was so bad.

I hope that everyone that is closer to the fires are all ok. Keep us posted. It is just horrible how everything is burning.

I am in Ridgecrest and when I look to the South I can see a huge Plume of smoke  I guess this fire is near the Lancaster area

I think it is Santa Clarita or something like that.

Thanks for your concern. I'm about 20 or so miles from the fires, were OK, but the company that I work for in Irvine got partially burned, all offices are OK and thank God, no one got hurt. Today I'm working at a different location, we are not sure when they are going to able to let us all go back.

About 10 miles from the Irvine fire. It's directly upwind from us - I doubt I'll sleep much tonight unless the wind dies down.

Went to work this AM (in San Diego) - offices were semi-closed, wife told me to come home based on how bad the SD fires were. Took me well over an hour to get 10 miles from my office to the train station... I'd likely still be down there if I didn't catch a train.

Solana Beach train station was coated with ash.

We are about 6 miles south of the Irvine fire. TERRIBLE smoke and ash this morning. Didn't send Makenzie to school due to her asthma. I took her to my parent's home, they leave near the beach. Not as close to the fires, but still quite smokey at their home as well. All of Orange County seems to have this horrible brown haze and it's just UGLY outside. :( Hoping all the fires subside soon.

My daughter called this morning and asked me if I had seen Cali in the news. I told her that I had heard about the Malibu fires. She told me that ah, yes, Mom, and there are fires around me as well. What?! She lives in Rancho Cucamonga and there are fires in Ontario and Fontana. She also said there was a voluntary evacuation.

She was on her way to Cal Poly in Pomona to go to class and I am anxious to hear from her tonight.

Anyone here from the IE?

My father and his wife are only about 5 miles (last I talked to them) from a fire in San Diego. They got a call this afternoon putting them on stand by for evacuation. They have their cars pack with as many 'unreplaceable' items as would fit. Waiting for an update from them, my dad has a blackberry so at least I know they can stay in touch somehow.

Hoping for an end to these fires and safety for all in their path.

Well we are not in danger of the fires but LA County called off all outside activity. So we had to keep the kids in at recess. Everywhere you walk the ash poofs out from under our feet. The smoke is all above us and around us. Kids are having a hard time breathing and our eyes, nose and throats are burning. Everytime you walk out side it feels like your mouth has a pasty film inside. Hopefully this ends soon and my prayers go out to all who are being directly affected.

We live in Alabama, so during this past summer when some of south Ga. was on fire we would get the ashy smell in the morning and the hazy skies, but it's nothing compared to what is going on in Cali. I hope everyone stays safe and sound.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. We live in the southeastern portion of the state out of range.

You're all in our thoughts and prayers.

My brother was just transfered to LA area for his job last week. The house that they are putting an offer on is in an area that is in the fire zone. So is their 2nd choice. They are just sitting and waiting. My s-i-l is really nervous, they're going from tornados in IL to fire in CA.

Best of luck to everyone. Hope you are all safe and sound.

We are safe now but a few days of very tense moments... fires were all around and we were on standby for evacuation. The nearest fire was 5 miles away here on Camp Pendleton.

There is a whole lot of ash to clean up, the cars need to be washed, the porches swept and everything hosed off.

Just too tired to worry about it today.

The kids don't go back to school until Tuesday... today is the first day they have been allowed outside at all since Monday.

My mom lives in San Diego and calls every weekend to drive me nuts on the phone but this time I was hoping she would call. I just got off the phone with her and according to her a smaller fire came within 8 miles of their place and the big fire that had the most concern came with in 13 miles but nobody in their immediate area had to be evacuated and all is safe where they live.
