Ok of course when I NEED it to work the batteries are dead in my digicam so I can't take a pic to post! I did take one on my cell phone to send to Hubby at work and my mom but that does no good here..LOL

Sat. evening Devin was bitten by a Misquito while playing outside (not uncommon for La..LOL). It was a bump and bite mark but that was it. All day yesterday (Sunday) it was fine.
This morning when I woke him up his eye is all swollen (same side as bite). There are no new bite marks and there is a little bruising but it looks like its from the swelling. His eye lid is swollen and under his eye a little (this is where the bruising is). It feels a little warm to the touch but he has no temperature!

Should I take him to the Dr or wait it out???

Also, his BG yesterday were AWESOME! hoovered around 90-100. Usually at 7am when he wakes its around 90 and we did NOTHING different last night than any other night and this morning it was 59. I am still learning about "D" so I don't know how an infection would affect his BG #'s.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any help or comments!
PS.I plan to call his PED this morning also but they don't open for another 30 minutes or so!
THANKS

I would take him in - but I take my kids in for almost anything... JMO

Could it be a spider bite or something?

Calling the pediatrician is a good idea. It sounds like an allergic reaction.

I would do the same as you - call the PED and heed their advice..

My daughter had something similar...it is in such a sensitive place, that it looks worse than it is. I would wait to hear from the ped, but benadryl and a cool wash clothe would probably take care of it if it is really just a mosquito...also, I have been known to take cooled, used tea bags and use those on the eye...they soothe and they have a natural antibiotic...I have used it and both kids...it really takes some of the sting away from allergy eyes, sore eyes, tired eyes, and things like stys and other gross stuff.

I'd go straight to the pediatrician.

My D daughter is very allergic to mosquito's and gets a huge lump and lots of swelling around the area.
The first time it happened was this summer and I was stunned by how bad they looked! She had several bites on her legs and it looked like she's been beaten because there were huge welts. It was awful.
She just had a bite last week on her hand and it looked like a little balloon for days. :(

I'd definitely check with the pedi since it's swelling around his eye. We usually give benadryl and use cold compresses just like Lee suggested.

Good Luck!

Our family rule is not to screw around with anything that has to do with the eyes...I'd take him in right away. Better safe than sorry.

Take him in. Bug bites are also known to cause cellulitis, something I dealt with a few weeks ago, that requires immediate attention. Whether it is allergic reaction or something worse it should be looked at by a Dr. especially since it is on the eye.

Abby does the same thing. I agree with the others, take him in. Cold wash cloth and if it's itchy give him the Benadryl.

The swelling has gone down. The ped called and told me to watch it for the next 12 hours since the swelling is already going down. I had forgotten until my 6 year old daughter mentioned it but a few weeks ago he had 5 or 6 ant bites on his hand and it to had swollen up like a little balloon a couple of days later! I guess my main panick was because it was the eye.
Thanks everyone for the advice and comments! It doesn't seem to be bothering him very much. I have only saw him scratch it once.
You all are so very helpful.
THANKS A MILLION!

When my 13yr old Daughter was younger she had allergic reactions to mosquitos it would lump up like she had an egg under her skin. repellants didnt work well for her but we have no problems with mosquitos if we rub a dryer sheet over ourselves then stick it in our pocket (they dont like the smell of dryer sheets)

Ditto;) As far as how an infection affects D. You Diabetes May Vary =YDMV, it can cause bg's to go up or down depending...Sorry that's not much help:rolleyes:

It could be an allergic reaction. But one time Carson got bit by a mosquito and it got infected. It took oral and topical antibiotics to get rid of it. The area that was infected was warm, hard, swollen, red, and he started to run a mild temp.

Only time one of mine has gotten swelling after a bite was once with my 2nd daughter, a spider bite and then my son Austin after a bee sting. But those were only at the bite site, it didnt spred. Benadryl and ice. :o

Thanks for the tip, I've heard that before but never tried it.
She seems to be a major mosquito magnet, even with spray. I'll try that next spring! (Luckily it nearly froze here last night and little pests should be gone for awhile!:))
