We went to our son's parents weekend yesterday. It was soooo good to see him. He looks good and healthy.:) We arrived during one of his Ultimate Frisbee scrimages. It is a combination of basketball and football, played with a frisbee and no padding. It is high energy and a lot of running. I love seeing him so physically active. His bg was 82 when he was done. :)
Before we left for NYC (his school is about 1/2 hour by subway into the city) he shared his meter numbers. Some in range, some not, but he is testing before he goes to parties and (according to him) not going over board. All his buddies know about his D and he has given him full instructions on his care. We went to dinner in NYC and met up with one of his new friends.
All in all it was a great visit. My DH and I decided to low key our discussion about D care. We didn't want it to seem like the spanish inquisition but we did ask him how he thought he was doing with his management. He was honest and said he could be testing more. We encouraged this aspect but also let him know we were proud of how he is trying to keep things in control.
I feel so much better having seen him in his own new environment. He is happy, active, found a great group of friends, and in reasonable D control for an 18 year old. Life is good!:):)
