We went to our son's parents weekend yesterday. It was soooo good to see him. He looks good and healthy.:) We arrived during one of his Ultimate Frisbee scrimages. It is a combination of basketball and football, played with a frisbee and no padding. It is high energy and a lot of running. I love seeing him so physically active. His bg was 82 when he was done. :)

Before we left for NYC (his school is about 1/2 hour by subway into the city) he shared his meter numbers. Some in range, some not, but he is testing before he goes to parties and (according to him) not going over board. All his buddies know about his D and he has given him full instructions on his care. We went to dinner in NYC and met up with one of his new friends.

All in all it was a great visit. My DH and I decided to low key our discussion about D care. We didn't want it to seem like the spanish inquisition but we did ask him how he thought he was doing with his management. He was honest and said he could be testing more. We encouraged this aspect but also let him know we were proud of how he is trying to keep things in control.

I feel so much better having seen him in his own new environment. He is happy, active, found a great group of friends, and in reasonable D control for an 18 year old. Life is good!:):)

Margaret, what a wonderful update! So glad for you all it was a great weekend. Sounds like you handled the D aspect of it like a pro. :cwds:

Thanks Laurie. I have to say I am not sure I would have handled it as well before getting on this forum. I have learned so much from everyone and approached it with some great perspective I have received from everyone here. (A calmer, more chilled out Mom ;))

What a difference a couple of months makes! I am not expecting everything to be perfect now...I know he will still have bumps in the road, but I just feel better after having seen him in his environment. Admittedly I bit my tongue on more then one occassion as he talked about his social life. And we are still waiting for grades...that will be the next adventure to know he is really settling in.

Thanks for sharing your lovely description of the weekend. :) It does feel good to see and acknowledge our children being competent.

Having met Stacey several times, I'd take her up on that offer in a heartbeat! :D

Thanks Stacey, what a nice offer. I am hoping that we never get to that point. I have my cell phone # on his medic alert bracelet and hope that if he ever gets into a crazy situation that they would call immediately. Then, if you want to see someone fly, stand back!!! We are about 2 hours away and have a friend who is about 45 minutes away so I hope we'll be okay in an emergency.

It is nice to know there are friends out here that care enough to offer. Thank you.
