does anyone have experience with the mini-med Sure-T infusion set? i understand this is a good option for thin kids who need a one-handed insertion(a thumb-tack type of insert). my son is a thin guy who needs to make a change before college starts in the fall.

this is my first post here. my son has been diabetic since he was 3, 15 years ago, he's been very tightly controlled and had excellent results with his paradigm. never thought i hear myself say this but he's just too fit and thin!

we looked at the silhouette and he wasn't thrilled with the insertion or the fact that it went in his abdomen, too many rejects with his sof-set in that area. it's all muscle.

thanks for any input.

LOL I think that's often a boy problem! My 2 girls are "chunky" but my son is a stick insect!
Libby has only been on a pump for a couple of months so I'm sorry I can't help you, but hopefully someone else can.

My son is also very thin though it sounds like not as tightly muscled as yours. He uses a short version of the Silhouette (Comfort Short, as we're using an Animas) in his stomach and that does work pretty well for him. If you can pinch up even a little "roll," you can insert it quite shallowly to make sure it doesn't hit the muscle. Even so, there are only a few places where Aaron can pinch up enough that he feel confident, so he uses a Quick-set up above his butt -- you can do that one-handed with the inserter without too much trouble.

I don't believe the Silhouette is available in the short length yet but I heard from Minimed when we were shopping around that it will be soon. There is also some kind of converter you can buy now for a Paradigm that allows you to use any other set -- lots of people seem to like the Inset.

We haven't tried the Sure-Ts but they definitely have their proponents and it sounds like they are really easy to insert. I think you are supposed to change them a little more often but the plus side is they never kink! After our little adventure the other night, that sounds really good to me...

Hope you find something that works for your son. That's a big adventure (for both of you!), first time living away from home!

 i'm not handling it all that well:eek:

but thank you for your reply. i swear there isn't a fraction of an inch to pinch on his abdomen. we're waiting for samples of the silhouette and the sure-T.

Sounds like quite the six-pack! I'm sure most guys are envious.
