I don't mind the blood tests. The thing I don't like about them is it takes time and I always have to stop and check before I eat, even if everyone is ready to start. I use a pump and I don't really like changing my site, but it isn't that bad. Shots are ok too, but no one likes sticking themselves with anything. I've never really been afraid of needles or blood though. :cwds:

If I get enough blood right away, then the pricks are the least painful. But I hate having to milk, milk, milk my finger to get enough blood. Sometimes I still don't get enough.
Injections are the worst when it takes a while for the needle to puncture my skin, or when it's hard to pull out of my skin, or when they itch afterwards and I'm not allowed to scratch.
I got diagnosed less than two weeks ago, so there's a lot I haven't tried yet; I'm going to start using the pen in a few weeks. The doctor says that the pen is less painful.:)

Some find the pens better, I never did, didn't go in far enough, wasn't the best for getting just the right angle, I didn't feel the dose was quite accurate, and always burned. If you're too dehydrated(which is quite easy with D), it can make your skin seem more tough, also the different sites you use will have different textures of skin. Cold insulin is more likely to cause the burning sensation, I always leave the bottle I'm using out room temperature. If you think the burning is uncomfortable, wait until you hit a vein or nerve, that really freaks you out the first time and is much much more uncomfortable. Needles don't bother me, I don't even feel them, especially while I was using the 31 guage(I think that's the gauge I used) short needles by Monoject for injections. I don't feel the infusion set needles either, or at least not the ones on the Insets, I didn't like the angle on the Comforts, but it wasn't the needle that bothered me. Over all, needles don't bother me at all, I hardly feel anything dealing with needles being so used to them(12 yrs and counting..), but I do enjoy the pump because it is more freedom, and I can throw the alarm clock across the room and sleep in as late as I want. And lancets... You guys have it great with the lancets today, and the BG meters... the ones back only a mere decade ago really sucked(I've heard horror stories for the ones older than that), and there was only usually one setting on the lancet device... deep, so you could get lots of blood for the meter, a 5 microlitre sample or more...(and people complain about 1 microlitre...)
