Samantha is running anywhere from 59 to 79 even without taking insulin today after eating her breakfast her lunch time reading was 71. Just the other day the dr changed her carb from 1 unit for 30 carbs to 1 unit for 35 carbs but like I said even without insulin she is still running low should we be looking at lowering the lantus again??? Right now she only takes 3 units of lantus.

You've got a honeymoon...ride it!! if she's still going low even without short acting insulin then you will probably have to lower the lantus. If that doesn't work (she starts running high with a fasting bg) then you might need to change that ratio a bit more OR try diluting insulin because sometimes all they need is .10 u of insulin (which you can't do with a syringe).

You are in the honeymoon phase, meaning youir daughter can get by with much less insulin than she'll need later. In the first part of the honeymoon, insulin needs actually decrease for some people - your daughter is one of them.

Note that I am never happier than when my DD is in the 60 to 80 range during the day. As long as it's possible to get BG up to say 120 at bedtime and levels aren't lower than 80 in the morning.

I would let the endo know the numbers, and chat about whether they think you should be lowering the Lantus.

I agree with the other posters -- she is getting some insulin, the Lantus. This needs to be lowered.
