My daughter (11) takes her meter and insulin with her wherever she goes.
We are having trouble finding the perfect carrying case.
Any suggestions?

Kaylie uses a small purse to carry her supplies. The best one we had was backpack type purse. It's best though if they have a zipper at the top so stuff doesn't fall out.:D

I've used quite a few things to carrie Kaylee's stuff but I have found one that is working well.. its actually an LL Bean lunch box:) http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=super-lunch-box&categoryId=38069&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&parentCategory=5182&cat4=2953&shop_method=pp&feat=5182-tn

I put her fast acting stuff, glucagon calorie kind book and meter case in the big comparment, the next size I have a zipper baggy that has her insulin, set change, inserter, emla and IV3000 and the smallest pocked I have single wet wips, alcohol wipes IV prep and remover.

we've had it for a few months and it's working great, the ONE thing I wish it had was a shoulder strap. nothing comes out of in (supplies) unless we need it.. except for the inserter comes out for set changes and goes right back in the bag..

I think this is the best bag that we've had by far.. I"m sure as she gets older she won't want to carry this around, but for now it works.. I know a few older girls that carry their things in a purse, which is what I'm sure Kaylee will do when she gets older..

Tessa carries her diabetes supplies in a Vera Bradly backpack. My eldest daughter works at a Hallmark store and gets a wonderful discount, so she took Tessa into work one day and let her pick out which pattern she wanted.
Tessa chose "petal pink" and it's very young, pretty, and stands out in a sea of Disney backpacks. I had the front monogrammed for her. Now we never go anywhere with her "diabetes backpack" as she calls it. Wherever Tessa goes, the backpack goes. I keep extra 4 oz juicy juices, a few packs of peanut butter ritz bits in it all of the time, and when we leave the house, add her pack that contains meter, strips, glucagon, a few syringes in case of pump failure, lancets, all of that sort of thing.

We do the backpack thing for supplies, too. My girls love them and they stay on the child...Liv was more likely to a bag or purse down somewhere and forget it.

We use cute mini backpacks. We have an assortment of styles and colors that Liv can change.

Philip wears a slim leather fanny pack. It holds his pencils, pens, lead, change, meter, pricker, strips and tabs.

Julia used to carry her insulin and syringes in her meter case, and then all in her purse. She also has a soft box from lilly that has pockets and stuff just for this, but she uses it for toys instead......

Cameron carries a small black sling bag that I found at Target. It's not too big and not too small. It holds his meter, tabs, crackers & juice but has more room if needed. What Cam liked about it was that it wasn't very obvious as it slung across his back -- he personally thought the smaller backpacks were too "babyish" (which offended me because I happen to carry a small backpack!;) LOL!)

My 11 year old (non d) is starting to like purses. I got her a small Vera Bradley for Christmas last year that she loves. It's very stylish for that age and would be the perfect size for a D kit. My D daughter is 8 and she uses several different things. She has a "bling bling" purse, a cute bag from Old Navy that is actually supposed to be a lunch bag and she has a few ruck style backpacks that she uses too. I think an 11 year old would like a stylish purse though. :) I'll post some links of the styles I'm thinking of. I'm a purse freak so I love looking for bags!!! :)

My son age 15 carries a small sports bag. The straps are long enough to wear as a backpack.:)

Ryan is almost 13 and carries his fanny pack. He refuses to wear it. But we keep a glucogan and glucose tabs as well as an extra infusion site, wipes, syringes, batteries, etc.

Derek carries everything in just a plain old, small sized, fanny pack. He's got two or three to choose from, but doesn't change them much if ever. A lot of the time he carries it like a purse in his hand or slung over his shoulder, but he also has the option of putting it more out of the way by cliping it around his waiste. Works great. Have never used anything else since we left the hospital. Actually bought the one he still uses at Mountain Equiptment Coop in Vancouver BC as we were leaving the hospital.

Hello fellow mommies,
I came across this forum from searching around for more information on diabetes. Although my two sons do not have it, I had gestational when I was pregnant with my son who was born 9/11/07 and I've been a part of the diabetic community every since.

I too was having problems with a bag/case that would carry all my supplies, although slightly different than the needs of t1 I still wanted a functional stylish case. I couldn't find one so I decided to design and create my own.

While my company is developing a stylish, functional glucose meter testing bag now for women, men and teens I'd like to hear what parents would want for a bag for their children as well.

Because I'm not familiar with the needs of kids with diabetes I thought I could get some feedback and opinions from the parents. Anyone willing to give me their thoughts on what they'd like to see in a childrens bag, I'd be happy to hear them and take them into consideration for a children's bag. Any information you can give and share would be greatly appreciated, especially problems you have in function and finding the perfect bag for them.

Thanks, and hope to hear your feedback*

We also do the LL Bean thing -oh, us New Englander's and our LL Bean...

http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&categoryId=47994&from=GM&noDept=&guideId=5953&moduleId=5956&feat=5956-dg

We have gone through a few designs, and this is my daughter's Fav (good for boy's also). The strap is padded, which makes it better for her to carry, it matches her book bag, holds EVERYTHING!!!! and she really likes it.

I really like it because it is 100% guaranteed...the first LL Bean bag we had, the strap broke...got a new one! The second got really stained, and they GAVE us a new one...I love LL Bean...buy the bag once and you got a bag for life...
